Adesilex P9 Express is a powdered adhesive available in white or grey, composed of a unique blend of special cement, graded aggregates, synthetic resin, and set accelerators, enabling it to establish a strong bond within just 3-4 hours after application. This quick setting time allows floor and wall coverings to be used almost immediately, with floors ready for foot traffic in just 4 hours and usable after 24 hours. Once cured, Adesilex P9 Express offers excellent resistance to freezing conditions and water. When mixed with water, it creates a mortar characterized by good workability, extended workability in the bucket for up to 45 minutes, strong bonding to conventional building materials, minimal shrinkage upon hardening, and an extended open time. The white variant boasts a very high white point. The environmental impact of Adesilex P9 Express has been assessed using Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methods, with results documented in an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) that meets ISO 14025 and EN 15804 standards. Additionally, it has low VOC emissions, ensuring the health and safety of applicators and occupants, and is certified EC1 Plus, contributing to valuable LEED credits.

Adesilex P9 Express is a versatile adhesive designed for bonding all types of ceramic tiles and mosaics on both internal and external floors and walls. Composed of rapid-setting hydraulic binders, it is particularly suitable for natural stone that does not suffer from moisture-induced staining, although it is not a rapid-drying product. This adhesive can be effectively applied to a variety of substrates, including walls with natural finish render or cementitious mortar, internal cellular cement block walls, gypsum and anhydrite surfaces treated with Primer G, plasterboard, heated floors, and adequately cured cementitious screeds. Additionally, it works well on internal painted walls, provided the paint is securely bonded. Adesilex P9 Express is ideal for repair work in high-traffic areas, facilitating quick restoration in commercial settings, and enabling rapid bonding in moisture-prone environments such as bathrooms, kitchens, and terraces. It is also suitable for overlaying old floors with new, non-absorbent flooring when traditional cementitious adhesives require longer setting times and for bonding small format tiles in swimming pools and tubs.

Preparation of the Substrate

Before applying Adesilex P9 Express, ensure that the substrates are flat, strong, free from crumbling areas, and devoid of grease, oil, varnish, wax, or any other contaminants. Damp substrates may prolong the setting time, and cementitious substrates must not shrink after the tiles are bonded. For optimal results, render should be cured for at least one week for each centimetre of thickness, and cementitious screeds should cure for at least 28 days unless special MAPEI screed binders like Mapecem, Mapecem Pronto, Topcem, or Topcem Pronto are used. If the substrate is overheated from direct sunlight, it should be cooled with water. Gypsum substrates and anhydrite screeds need to be perfectly dry (maximum residual moisture content of 0.5%, and 0.3% for heated screeds), strong, dust-free, and treated with Primer G or Eco Prim T before the application of Adesilex P9 Express. For damp environments, waterproof the substrates using Mapegum WPS or products from the Mapelastic range.

Preparation of the Mix

To prepare the mix, combine approximately 6.3-6.8 litres of water with a 25 kg bag of grey Adesilex P9 Express or 6.5-7 litres of water with a 25 kg bag of white Adesilex P9 Express. Gradually pour the adhesive into a container with clean water while mixing with an electric mixer until a smooth, lump-free consistency is achieved. Allow the mixture to rest for a few minutes, then briefly mix again before application. The adhesive should be used within 45 minutes of mixing.

Spreading the Mix

Apply Adesilex P9 Express to the substrate using a notched trowel that ensures full wetting of the back of the tiles. For optimal bonding, first spread a thin layer of the adhesive on the substrate using the smooth edge of the trowel, then immediately follow with a thicker layer using a notched trowel suitable for the type and size of tiles. If the substrate is particularly absorbent and the temperature is high, pre-wetting the substrate is recommended to extend the open time.

Bonding Tiles

Wetting the tiles before installation is generally unnecessary; however, if they are dusty, a quick rinse in clean water is advisable. Under normal temperature and humidity, the open time for Adesilex P9 Express is approximately 30 minutes. This time may be significantly reduced in adverse conditions, such as direct sunlight, dry wind, or high temperatures, or if the substrate is highly absorbent. Regularly check the adhesive to ensure it remains fresh and has not formed a surface skin; if it has, re-spread the adhesive with a notched trowel. Avoid adding water to the adhesive once a skin has formed, as this can hinder adhesion. After application, protect the bonded floor and wall coverings from water and rain for at least 3 hours and from direct sunlight and freezing temperatures for at least 24 hours.

Grouting and Sealing

After approximately 4 hours, fill the grout lines between the tiles using specific MAPEI cementitious or epoxy grouting mortars, available in various colours. Seal any expansion joints with the appropriate MAPEI sealant.

Set to Foot Traffic

The floors can be set to foot traffic after about 4 hours, and surfaces may be put into service after approximately 24 hours.
