Primer G is a synthetic resin-based primer that dries to create a flexible, compact, and shiny coating on various surfaces, effectively consolidating them where necessary. This primer enhances the adhesion of smoothing compounds, paints, wallpaper adhesives, tile adhesives, and render mortars. Additionally, it forms a protective film on gypsum and cement surfaces, preventing chemical reactions between sulphates and cement aluminates, which can cause ettringite formation and subsequent separation when moisture is present. When used prior to wallpaper application, it reduces substrate absorption, decreasing glue usage and simplifying wallpaper removal. It also extends workability time for sprayable plasters by preventing rapid water absorption and helps minimize shrinkage cracks. Moreover, it reduces air bubble formation and slows drying in self-levelling compounds, making the application process easier. Importantly, Primer G is non-flammable, allowing safe use in closed and unventilated spaces without special precautions.

Key Points:

Surface Consolidation: Dries to form a flexible, compact coating that strengthens surfaces and improves adhesion for various materials.

Chemical Protection: Prevents harmful chemical reactions between sulphates and cement aluminates, safeguarding against ettringite formation in moist conditions.

Efficiency in Application: Reduces substrate absorption during wallpaper application, minimizes glue usage, and eases wallpaper removal, while also extending workability for sprayable plasters and self-levelling compounds.

Safety: Non-flammable and can be safely used in enclosed spaces without the need for special precautions.

Primer G is specifically designed for various applications, such as treating gypsum surfaces before installing ceramic tiles, serving as an anchoring coat for gypsum-based sprayable plasters, and enhancing the adhesion of smoothing compounds on cementitious, anhydrite, and gypsum-based surfaces. It ensures uniform absorption in these surfaces and is useful in preparing cement-based surfaces for smoothing with self-levelling or thixotropic compounds. Additionally, Primer G can be applied between layers of smoothing compounds after the first coat has fully dried, and on gypsum plasters before using cementitious products. It is effective on anhydrite surfaces prior to applying cement-based materials and on cementitious renders before smoothing with gypsum products. Furthermore, Primer G acts as a fixer for wallpaper adhesives on gypsum walls and is suitable for use before installing ceramic tiles with cementitious adhesives on various substrates, including gypsum plasters, pre-cast gypsum panels, fibre-gypsum panels, and anhydrite screeds. It is also applicable for treating gypsum walls, chipboard, cement fibre boards, foamed concrete, and renders prior to painting or papering.

Preparing the Substrate

The substrate must be clean, dry, and free from oils, grease, residual paint, and other loose materials. Always follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for gypsum plaster, particularly regarding moisture content and surface finishing levels. Cracks in concrete surfaces should be repaired using Eporip or Epojet, while anhydrite surfaces must be sanded.

Application

  1. a) As a treatment for ceramic tiles installed on gypsum:

Before use, stir Primer G and apply it uniformly to the surface with a flat brush or roller without dilution. If the gypsum plaster surface is particularly smooth and glossy, it is advisable to abrade it beforehand. Once the primer has dried, you can install the tiles.

  1. b) As an anchoring coat for gypsum plasters:

Dilute Primer G in a 1:2 ratio with water and stir well. Spread the mixture uniformly on the surface using a flat brush, roller, or spray pump. Apply the sprayable gypsum plaster as soon as Primer G is dry.

  1. c) As a primer before applying self-levelling compounds and thixotropic smoothing compounds from the MAPEI range:

For cementitious substrates, dilute Primer G in a 1:1 ratio with water. For gypsum-based substrates, use Primer G neat.

  1. d) As a primer for wallpaper adhesives:

Dilute Primer G in a 1:3 ratio with water.

  1. e) As a primer between smoothing layers:

Dilute Primer G in a 1:1 ratio with water.
