Mapeguard WP 200 is an alkali-resistant waterproofing and anti-fracture membrane designed for internal use, making it ideal for installation beneath ceramic, natural stone, and luxury vinyl tile (LVT) flooring. This flexible, thin-layer membrane is constructed from soft polyethylene and features a non-woven polypropylene fabric on both sides, enhancing adhesive bond strength between the membrane and the substrate as well as between the membrane and the flooring. It offers several beneficial properties, including waterproofing, high tensile strength, and crack-bridging capability, ensuring durability and protection against structural movements.
Key Points:
Versatile Application: Suitable for use as a waterproofing and anti-fracture membrane under ceramic, natural stone, and LVT floors.
Durable Construction: Made from soft polyethylene and coated with non-woven polypropylene fabric for enhanced bond strength.
High Performance: Exhibits high tensile strength and excellent crack-bridging ability, ensuring reliable performance.
Alkali Resistance: Resistant to alkalis, making it a suitable choice for various internal environments.

Mapeguard WP 200 is a waterproofing and anti-fracture membrane composed of soft polyethylene, designed for direct installation beneath ceramics, natural stone tiles, and luxury vinyl tiles (LVT). This membrane is particularly effective in wet and damp environments within both residential and commercial buildings, making it suitable for use in domestic and hotel bathrooms, as well as private and commercial showers. Additionally, it serves as a waterproofing solution for moisture-sensitive substrates, including gypsum plasters, gypsum fibreboards, and calcium sulphate screeds, as well as various mineral surfaces like cement plaster, porous concrete, concrete, cement screeds, and cement-based panels.
Preparation of the Substrate
The substrate must be dry, stable, sound, flat, and free from loose particles or materials that may inhibit adhesion. Remove all cement laitance, flaking areas, and traces of powder, grease, wax, paint, etc. Repair any cracks wider than 0.2 mm with Eporip or Eporip Turbo beforehand. Uneven cementitious substrates or ceramic surfaces with wide joints should be smoothed and repaired using appropriate MAPEI products (see the general catalogue) before installing Mapeguard WP 200. Existing floors, including those tiled with ceramic, porcelain, klinker, or terracotta tiles, must be well bonded to the substrate and free from substances that could affect the adhesion of the membrane, such as grease, oil, wax, or paint. To eliminate contaminants that could compromise the adhesion of the cementitious adhesive, clean the floor using suitable cleaning agents. Gypsum-based substrates, such as calcium sulphate screeds, plasterboard, or gypsum plaster, as well as absorbent surfaces made of concrete, aerated concrete, cement mortar, and cement render, must be primed with Primer G or Eco Prim T Plus at the appropriate dilution before laying Mapeguard WP 200 (refer to the relevant technical data sheet for details). Non-absorbent substrates like ceramic tiles or natural stone surfaces should be primed with Eco Prim T Plus or Eco Prim Grip Plus.
Laying Mapeguard WP 200
Before bonding, cut Mapeguard WP 200 to size. Use a MAPEI tile adhesive that conforms to a minimum of class C2 according to EN 12004 or ISO 13007 (e.g., Keraquick S1, Ultralite S1, Keraquick, Keraquick Maxi S1, or similar) applied with a 3×3 or 4×4 mm notched trowel. If LVT flooring is to be installed afterward, bond Mapeguard WP 200 using Mapeguard WP Adhesive. Lay Mapeguard WP 200 over the fresh adhesive, pressing it down uniformly from the centre to the edges to avoid trapping air bubbles beneath the waterproof membrane. The overlap between Mapeguard WP 200 sheets should be at least 5 cm wide and sealed with Mapeguard WP Adhesive using a 3×3 mm notched trowel. Seal all junctions between floors and walls, as well as adjoining sheets, with Mapeguard ST laid directly onto Mapeguard WP 200 using Mapeguard WP Adhesive. Waterproof internal and external corners with Mapeguard IC and Mapeguard EC, bonded with Mapeguard WP Adhesive onto the membrane. All pipes must be waterproofed using the special accessories Mapeguard PC, bonded with Mapeguard WP Adhesive on the membrane. Before installing the membrane, apply Mapeflex MS45 around the perimeter of the drain to achieve an adequate seal at the junction.
Laying Tiles
After applying the waterproof membrane, proceed directly with the tile installation. Choose the adhesive based on the type and size of the selected ceramic tile or natural stone. Once the tiles are installed, grout the joints with the relevant MAPEI cementitious or epoxy grout. Seal the expansion/movement joints with the appropriate MAPEI sealant. If the system is applied to different surfaces, in climatic conditions, or for final uses not mentioned above, please contact the Technical Services Department at MAPEI UK.
Installing LVT
If installing LVT flooring or wall coverings, wait at least 3 hours after spreading Mapeguard WP 200 to allow Mapeguard WP Adhesive to set. The LVT tiles can then be installed using Ultrabond Eco MS 4 LVT or Ultrabond Eco MS 4 LVT Wall. For further details on product use, refer to the relevant Technical Data Sheet and the Shower System 4 LVT¹ System Data Sheet.
