ARDEX K 11 is a rapid hardening, free-flowing leveling and smoothing compound specifically designed to address a variety of sub-floor types, including cement/sand screeds, gypsum screeds, and concrete. This versatile product can be applied in a single layer up to a maximum thickness of 10mm, while still maintaining its excellent free-flowing properties even at thinner applications of just 2mm. Ideal for preparing uneven internal sub-floors before installing various floor coverings, ARDEX K 11 dries to a virtually tension-free layer. Under optimal conditions at 20°C, it allows for the installation of floor coverings such as vinyl, linoleum, and carpet after just 16 hours when applied at thicknesses of up to 3mm.
Key Features:
- Versatile Application: Suitable for leveling and smoothing various sub-floor types, including cement/sand screeds and gypsum screeds.
- Free-Flowing Properties: Maintains excellent flow characteristics even at a minimum thickness of 2mm, ensuring material economy.
- Quick Drying: Dries to a tension-free layer, allowing for the installation of floor coverings within 16 hours under ideal conditions.
- High Thickness Capacity: Can be applied in a single application up to 10mm thick, making it effective for significant unevenness in sub-floors.

ARDEX K 11 is designed to level and smooth uneven internal sub-floors in a single application, preparing them for the installation of various floor coverings. It dries to a nearly tension-free layer, allowing for the application of materials such as vinyl, linoleum, and carpet after just 16 hours under optimal conditions at 20°C when applied at a thickness of up to 3mm.
Surface Preparation
Before applying ARDEX K 11, ensure that the surface is hard, sound, and free from dust, dirt, and any barrier materials such as grease, paint, adhesive residues, or loosely adhered materials. Any adhesive residues present should be well adhered, unaffected by water, and strong enough to support ARDEX K 11. Note: This product is intended for internal use only. Direct-to-earth sub-floors must include an effective damp proof membrane (DPM). If the DPM is missing, damaged, or if the substrate is damp, please refer to the ARDEX DPM 1 C datasheet or contact the ARDEX Technical Support Team for guidance.
Priming
All surfaces must be properly primed before applying ARDEX K 11. Thoroughly prime concrete, cement/sand screeds, and gypsum sub-floors with ARDEX P 51 Primer and Bonding Agent. This primer acts as a pore sealer, helping to maintain the flow life of the mortar and preventing air bubbles from rising through the applied ARDEX K 11. For very smooth, dense, and non-absorbent surfaces, such as ARDEX DPMs or power-floated concrete, ARDEX P 82 Primer and ARDEX P 4 Primer are recommended. Prior to priming, remove any contaminants such as polish, wax, grease, or oil using an appropriate degreaser. Ensure that all ARDEX Primers are used strictly according to the relevant product data sheet to guarantee adequate adhesion of ARDEX K 11.
Mixing
To mix ARDEX K 11, add the powder to the required amount of clean water in a clean mixing container while stirring thoroughly until a lump-free mortar is achieved. The mixing ratio by volume is approximately 3½ parts ARDEX K 11 powder to 1 part clean water, which translates to using 5.0 liters of water for each 22kg bag. Using an ARDEX mixing paddle with a 10mm chuck and a variable-speed electric drill will facilitate easy mixing.
Application
Pour the mixed ARDEX K 11 mortar onto the prepared sub-floor and spread it evenly using a steel finishing trowel or ARDEX Pin Leveller. The mixed mortar will flow and self-smooth within the first 15 minutes of its 30-minute working time. Coverage Note: Apply at temperatures above 5°C and protect the freshly applied material from direct sunlight and drafts, as these can cause premature drying and negatively affect the product’s performance. ARDEX K 11 can be applied using a pump at thicknesses of up to 10mm. For advice on specific applications, consult the ARDEX Technical Support Team.
Applications Over Underfloor Heating
When using ARDEX K 11 over underfloor heating, ensure that the heated screed is installed according to BS 8204 Part 1 and BS EN 1264. The underfloor heating system must be commissioned per the manufacturer’s instructions and the aforementioned standards. Once commissioned and thermally cycled, turn down the heating to room temperature, not below 15°C, before applying ARDEX K 11 and the final floor covering. Gradually raise the heating back to normal operating temperature to prevent rapid thermal shock and wide temperature fluctuations.
