ARDEX ARDURAPID A 45 is a fast-drying, slump-free mortar ideal for a range of internal repairs. This mortar sets in 15 minutes and can be walked on within 90 minutes at 20°C, regardless of application thickness. It is suitable for re-profiling and repairing concrete surfaces, filling cracks, making good around pipework and frames, and forming ramps and coves. When used as a wearing surface, ARDEX ARDURAPID A 45 requires a suitable protective coating.

Key Points:

  1. Rapid Setting and Hardening: Sets in 15 minutes, allowing foot traffic after 90 minutes at 20°C.
  2. Versatile Repair Applications: Ideal for internal concrete, screeds, stair treads, risers, and floor repairs.
  3. Crack and Gap Filling: Effective for patching walls, ceilings, soffits, and areas around fixtures.
  4. Forms Ramps and Coves: Can be feathered to screed thickness for ramps and coving applications.

Coverage: An 11kg bag of ARDEX ARDURAPID A 45 covers approximately 7m² at a 1mm thickness (equivalent to 7 liters of mortar), though actual coverage may vary based on surface flatness.

Storage and Shelf Life: Store ARDEX ARDURAPID A 45 in its unopened packaging, off the ground, in a cool, dry place protected from drafts. When stored under these conditions, the product has a 12-month shelf life from the date indicated on the packaging.

ARDEX ARDURAPID A45 is ideal for re-profiling, repairing, and resurfacing internal concrete stair treads, risers, cement and sand screeds, and concrete floors. It’s also suitable for filling and patching cracks in walls, ceilings, and soffits, as well as for finishing areas around pipework, door, and window frames. The mortar can be used to form ramps from a feather edge up to normal screed thickness and to create coves. When applied as a wearing surface, ARDEX ARDURAPID A45 requires a suitable protective coating.

Surface Preparation: ARDEX ARDURAPID A 45 can be applied to dry or damp screeds as long as they are set, hardened, and free from dust, grease, oil, and other contaminants. Heavily worn or trafficked surfaces should be abraded (e.g., using a wire brush or angle grinder) to remove any contamination and expose a clean surface for optimal adhesion. For dense or smooth, impervious surfaces, use ARDEX P4 Primer. Priming is typically unnecessary on concrete, cement/sand, or brickwork unless the surface is very porous. Direct-to-earth sub-floors must have an effective damp-proof membrane, such as ARDEX DPM 1C.

Mixing: Combine ARDEX ARDURAPID A 45 powder with clean water in a clean container, mixing thoroughly until smooth and slump-free. Use 11kg of powder per 2.5 liters of water, approximately a 3:1 powder-to-water ratio by volume. Avoid over-watering. The mixture has a working time of 10-15 minutes at 20°C, with lower temperatures extending and higher temperatures reducing this time. The mortar can be applied up to 20mm thickness in isolated areas. For economy, add ARDEX Coarse Aggregate or 1/3 volume coarse screeding sand for applications up to 50mm. For aggregate-filled mortars, apply a neat layer of ARDEX A 45 as a bonding coat, fresh-on-fresh.

Application:

  • Repairs: Trowel the mortar into holes, cracks, and worn areas, pressing it firmly to wet the surface and leaving it slightly proud. After 15 minutes, trim excess and smooth with a wet trowel or sponge. Once hardened, level the surface with an appropriate ARDEX smoothing compound if needed.
  • Smoothing and Refacing: Apply the mortar with a trowel to the desired thickness, finishing with a wet trowel after 15-20 minutes to achieve a finish suitable for direct floor covering application. High aggregate content mixes may need a second layer of ARDEX ARDURAPID A45 or ARDEX FEATHER FINISH. Apply only above 5°C.
