ARDEX E 100 is an acrylic-based dispersion designed for enhancing screeding and rendering mortars for both internal and external applications. By incorporating ARDEX E 100, the compressive and tensile strengths, elasticity, and bond strength of modified mortars are significantly improved, while workability and plastic properties are enhanced without increasing the water/cement ratio. Additionally, ARDEX E 100 effectively reduces the formation of early-age cracks. It is also suitable for use in bonding slurries and grout mixtures with ARDEX A38 Rapid Hardening and Drying Cement for floor screeds. This product is particularly valuable in bonding grouts or slurry coats, facilitating the adhesion of bonded screeds in mortars made from ordinary Portland cement, masonry cements, cement/lime blends, and bonded renders applied to cementitious backgrounds.
Key Points
- Strength and Elasticity Enhancement: Improves the compressive and tensile strengths, elasticity, and bond strength of mortars without increasing the water/cement ratio.
- Crack Reduction: The addition of ARDEX E 100 significantly reduces early-age crack formation in modified mortars.
- Versatile Applications: It can be used in bonding slurries, grout mixtures, and to adhere bonded screeds made from various cement types to cementitious substrates.
- Minimum Thickness Reduction: ARDEX E 100 allows the minimum thickness of modified bonded Portland cement floor screeds to be reduced from 25mm to 15mm.
Storage and Shelf Life: ARDEX E 100 has a shelf life of at least 12 months when kept in unopened containers. It should be stored in a location that is protected from frost and direct sunlight.

ARDEX E100 is utilized in bonding grouts or slurry coats to enhance the adhesion of bonded screeds in mortars based on ordinary Portland cements, masonry cements, cement/lime, and bonded renders applied to cementitious backgrounds. Additionally, ARDEX E100 serves as an additive to achieve several benefits: it improves workability without raising the water content of mortars, increases the compressive and tensile bending strengths of the cured mortars, enhances elasticity while reducing crack formation, decreases surface dusting of screeds and renders while boosting their abrasion resistance, and allows for a reduction in the minimum thickness of modified bonded Portland cement floor screeds to 15mm, compared to the standard 25mm for unmodified screed mortars.
Preparation
Ensure that all substrates are free from dust, loosely adhered materials, lime bloom or efflorescence, surface curing agents, and mold oil or release agents. Any necessary mechanical preparation of the surface should follow the relevant British Standard Code of Practice, such as BS 8204-1. Note that it’s important to allow concrete backgrounds to dry sufficiently before applying finishes to ensure that most of the concrete’s drying shrinkage has occurred.
Mixing
For screeding and rendering applications, mix the cement and sand together, then add the required amount of ARDEX E100 (refer to the table below) along with additional water to achieve the desired mortar consistency. To create a bonding slurry or grout for screeds and renders, dilute ARDEX E100 with an equal volume of water, then combine it with cement and sand while stirring until a lump-free, creamy consistency suitable for brushing is achieved.
Application
Once the cement and sand mortar is modified with ARDEX E100, apply it in the usual manner onto the prepared substrate using the bonding slurry or grout. Use a stiff broom or similar tool to evenly spread the bonding slurry over the substrate, ensuring adequate coverage. Apply the render or screed mortar onto the bonding slurry while it remains fresh, wet, and workable. For smooth, vertical surfaces such as dense concrete, create a key by combing the coat and allowing it to set and dry, which will form a bonding key for the render mortar to adhere to subsequently.
