Metal-Kote is a revolutionary metal roof coating that requires no priming and provides instant waterproofing in a single coat. It offers a cost-effective alternative to roof replacement, restoring failing metal roofs at just 40% of the replacement cost while allowing businesses to operate as usual. Ideal for a variety of environments, including sterile areas like laboratories and food preparation spaces, Metal-Kote combats rust, flaking, and peeling while forming a durable, watertight seal. Unlike other coatings, it can be applied directly over surface rust without the need for blasting, sanding, or priming, bonding immediately and skinning over within 30 minutes to 2 hours.

Key Points:

  • No Priming Required – Applied directly to metal surfaces, even over rust, with no need for blasting or sanding.
  • Cost-Effective Solution – Restores failing metal roofs at 40% of the cost of replacement.
  • Fast & Durable Application – A single spray-applied coat provides a 100% waterproof, rust-inhibiting barrier.
  • Quick Drying Time – Skins over within 30 minutes to 2 hours for rapid protection.

Storage Conditions: Store in a dry, well-ventilated area between 5°C and 25°C, away from heat, ignition sources, and direct sunlight. No smoking.

Metal-Kote is a highly effective, one-coat coating solution that seals metal surfaces with no priming required. It features a 100% waterproof formula with exceptional adhesion, making it ideal for use on coated and uncoated steel, galvanized steel, aluminium, and cast iron. Suitable for application in temperatures ranging from 5°C to 35°C (but not within 3°C of the dew point), Metal-Kote offers a fast and reliable solution for sealing rust and protecting metal surfaces.

Surface Preparation
Mix thoroughly before use, either by stirring or using a mechanical agitator. DO NOT THIN. The temperature range for application is 5°C–35°C (do not apply within 3°C of the dew point). All metal surfaces must be power washed first, taking care not to damage areas where corrosion has occurred. Check and tighten or replace loose and rusty fasteners. Replace any rusting or failing hardware, using larger fasteners for a tighter seal. Remove loose, flaking rust and rust residue to avoid discoloration and stains in the coating. Ensure existing coatings are firmly adhered, removing poorly adhered material. Clean surfaces by sweeping, brushing, blowing, or water blasting. Remove any traces of mould or mildew with a bleach solution or fungicide and rinse thoroughly. For non-weathered or new galvanized steel, copper, aluminium, and tin, scrub with a proprietary detergent and rinse with water to remove greasy films that may hinder adhesion. Prior to coating, ensure the surface is clean, sound, and dry for optimal performance.

Overlaps, Splits, Fissures, and Roofing Vents
Use an angle grinder to remove loose or eroded metal from side and end laps. Supply and fix new tech screws where necessary. Install new Bulbtite pop rivets with seals on side and end laps to secure loose sheets and minimize movement. Pay extra attention to roofing vents, as they are a common source of water ingress. Roof vents are often installed after the main roof and may have flat cover sheets with a different profile. Ensure the seals are watertight and fill any redundant fixing holes, splits, or fissures before applying Metal-Kote.

Application
Apply one coat of Metal-Kote by brush or heavy-duty sprayer (spraying is recommended for best results). Avoid uneven application, especially on corrugated surfaces. If using a brush, apply the coating uniformly to prevent pooling or puddling in low spots or thin areas on corrugation ridges. Recommended coverage is 1.7m² per litre at 600 microns wet film thickness. Metal-Kote sets quickly, forming an instant watertight barrier that skins over in ½ to 2 hours. Final drying time depends on the thickness of application, air movement, and weather conditions, with a typical curing time of up to 7 days.

Spray Application
Metal-Kote is a heavy-duty coating, not a paint. Change and clean the petrol unit every 5 drums (approx. 150m²) to prevent clogging. It takes about 30–60 seconds to change the filter, and a spare filter is recommended to avoid delays. Use a Graco G Max 11 5900 HD petrol unit, with a pressure ratio of 56:1, 63:1, or Premier 74.1. Avoid using a suction hose; direct immersion is preferred. Use a 15m x 3/8″ hose, and a 510 high-volume airless gun with a 531 thou GHD reversible spray tip (clear tips by reversing if blocked). Set atomising pressure as per equipment manufacturer’s instructions to eliminate “tails” or “fingers.”

Re-Coating
Metal-Kote adheres well to all metal surfaces and will bond to itself if recoating is needed. Simply power wash the surface to remove contamination.

Patch Test
Acrypol Products recommends conducting a patch test if you are unsure about roof stability, coating compatibility, adhesion, or repair feasibility. Apply a small section of coating (approx. 30cm²) and check for bubbling or blistering immediately after application. Allow the patch to cure for 3-4 weeks. If bubbling, blistering, or separation occurs, do not use Metal-Kote on that area.

Cleaning
Clean tools and equipment with Acrypol Cleaner or white spirit.
