ARBOShield Pro Class A W1 Breather Membrane is ideal for all light steel frame (SFS) walling applications and is particularly suited for high-rise and high-risk buildings such as schools, hospitals, care homes, and residential blocks, helping to reduce the risk of fire spread. It is also suitable for modular off-site construction. The unique composition of the membrane resists the spread of fire across the cavity of the façade. ARBOShield Pro Class A W1 Breather Membrane can be installed on a variety of substrates, including sheathing boards, window frames, concrete, steel, and blockwork.
APPLICATION
Unroll the ARBOShield Pro Class A W1 Breather Membrane and fix it directly onto the sheathing or insulation. Secure the membrane to the substrate using appropriate fixings, spaced no more than 600mm horizontally and 500mm vertically. Seal all laps around window or door openings with ARBOShield Pro Class A High Tack adhesive tape. Vertically, the membrane should overlap by at least 150mm, with joints arranged in a staggered pattern. Horizontally, ensure a minimum 100mm lap, starting at the bottom of the panel and working upwards, so the upper layer covers the lower layer, protecting the substrate from water run-off.
Follow the manufacturer’s instructions when installing fixing brackets for cladding or wall ties, and be cautious around the interface between the Breather Membrane and fixing brackets. When cavity barriers are installed horizontally, overlap the membrane over the DPC tray to allow for water run-off. As the external airtightness layer, seal the Breather Membrane using ARBOShield Pro Class A High Tack Sealing Tape. The membrane’s composition provides excellent UV resistance, allowing for long exposure times in both summer and winter without affecting performance.
Take care during installation to avoid damage to the membrane. For small punctures less than 50mm, use ARBOShield Pro Class A High Tack Sealing Tape for repairs. For larger punctures or tears exceeding 50mm, replace the damaged section with new Breather Membrane and seal the inserted section with tape.
