CTA Flexible is a grey, thin-bed ceramic tile adhesive designed for use on a variety of surfaces, offering excellent non-slip characteristics and a regular setting speed. It forms a strong bond to fully vitrified tiles, making it ideal for tile-on-tile applications. Its flexibility allows it to be used on backgrounds subject to limited movement, flexing, vibration, and underfloor heating systems. Completely waterproof and frost-resistant, CTA Flexible is suitable for both interior and exterior use, including in areas like swimming pools, showers, saunas, and bathrooms. It is perfect for fixing all types of ceramic floor and wall tiles, including porcelain, mosaics, natural stone, and similar finishes.

Key Points:

    • Excellent bond strength and high grab
    • Water-resistant and suitable for immersion, such as in swimming pools
    • Flexible and non-slip for versatile applications
    • Suitable for both internal and external use, including underfloor heating systems

Shelf Life: This product has a minimum shelf life of 12 months from the date of manufacture, as indicated on the bag, when stored in unopened sacks.

Storage Conditions: Store in a cool, dry place, away from temperature extremes, and protect from frost. The manufacturer’s bag should remain sealed.

Coverage: Coverage depends on the application method, substrate, and tile type. However, 20kg of CTA FLEXIBLE will typically cover approximately 6-7m² at a 3mm bed thickness.

Bond It CTA FLEXIBLE is a grey, cement-based adhesive suitable for both thin and thick bed applications on walls and floors. With properties like high grab, non-slip characteristics, and flexibility, it is ideal for areas subject to limited movement and vibration, both internally and externally. CTA FLEXIBLE is compatible with all types of ceramic tiles, including mosaics, porcelain, natural stone, marble, and travertine, and can be applied to a variety of substrates such as underfloor heating systems, tile-on-tile, and properly prepared sheeted timber. This adhesive is particularly well-suited for use with porcelain and light-colored tiles, as it prevents trowel marks from showing through. Its water resistance makes it perfect for high-moisture environments like bathrooms, saunas, and swimming pools.

Preparation
All surfaces, including existing tiles, must be clean, structurally sound, and free from dust, oil, grease, curing compounds, wax residues, paint, or any other contaminants that may affect adhesion. Any separating agents must be removed. CTA FLEXIBLE can accommodate minor surface irregularities, as long as the bed thickness does not exceed 6mm (up to 12mm in isolated areas). For porous gypsum, aerated concrete, and interior asphalt substrates, priming with products such as Bond It PRIMER AND FLEXIBLE ADDITIVE (P&FA) is required. Note: PVA is not recommended for priming. Plaster surfaces should be strong enough to support the combined weight of the tiles and adhesive, with a minimum of 4 weeks for plaster to dry. Plaster and plywood must be primed with Bond It PRIMER AND FLEXIBLE ADDITIVE. Tongue and groove floorboards should be covered with at least 15mm exterior-grade plywood, screwed at 300mm intervals, and primed accordingly. Chipboard must not be used. Existing tiles should be sound, with any loose or hollow tiles being secured. For vinyl tiles, ensure they are securely bonded, free from polish or wax, and provide a key by rubbing with coarse sandpaper and priming with Bond It PRIMER AND FLEXIBLE ADMIXTURE. When tiling over substrates with underfloor heating, turn it off 48 hours before tiling and do not turn it on for another 48 hours after completion, gradually increasing the temperature by +5°C per day. Anhydrite/calcium sulphate screeds should be sanded, vacuumed, and primed with 2 coats of Bond It PRIMER AND FLEXIBLE ADMIXTURE, allowing 24 hours for drying.

Mixing
To mix 20kg of CTA FLEXIBLE, add it slowly to 5L of clean water, stirring continuously with a suitable slow-speed drill or paddle. Never add more water once the mixture has started to set.

Application
Choose a suitable-sized notched trowel based on surface irregularities to ensure 100% coverage on the back of the tile. Press and twist tiles into place, ensuring a minimum adhesive bead thickness of 3mm. For deep-studded tiles, large format tiles (greater than 250mm x 300mm), or wet areas, butter the back of the tile with adhesive to enhance adhesion. Periodically remove and inspect a tile to check for adequate bedding. Ensure expansion joints are provided according to BS5385. The ‘Dot and Dab’ method is not recommended. Remove excess adhesive with a damp cloth before it sets. Avoid use in temperatures below +5°C or in extreme heat. The final set will occur within 24 hours, depending on temperature.

Grouting
Grouting can begin once the adhesive has cured enough to allow light foot traffic, typically around 12 hours depending on conditions. Cold or humid environments will slow drying times.

Cleaning
Wash tools with water immediately after use.
