SBR Admixture is a styrene-butadiene copolymer latex that enhances the flexibility of cement screeds and mortars, improving their water, chemical, and abrasion resistance, as well as their durability. It is ideal for both internal and external floors and renderings in areas subject to continual or intermittent water and chemical exposure. The product acts as an excellent waterproofing admixture, improving adhesion and reducing shrinkage and cracking in floor screeds, and is perfect as a bonding agent for new-to-old concrete. It can be used as a bonding agent, admixture, or general-purpose primer, especially for applications such as tiling. Additionally, it improves the workability, wet adhesion, and plasticity of mortars, renders, and screeds, making it suitable for repair patching and enhancing the flexibility and adhesion of cement surfaces.

Key Points:

  • Improves Flexibility & Durability – Enhances the flexibility, water, and chemical resistance of cement screeds and mortars.
  • Versatile Application – Can be used as a bonding agent, admixture, or primer for various applications, including tiling.
  • Reduces Cracking & Shrinkage – Minimizes shrinkage, cracking, and surface dusting in fresh mortars and floor screeds.
  • Enhanced Performance – Increases abrasion resistance and improves adhesion, making it ideal for internal and external use.

Coverage: Flooring: 5 litres of SBR per 25 kg of cement. Mortar/Rendering: 5-7.5 litres of SBR per 25 kg of cement. Key Coat: 5 litres of SBR per 30m², depending on the porosity of the surface.

Shelf Life & Storage Conditions: This product has a shelf life of 24 months from the date of manufacture when stored in unopened bottles. Store in a cool, dry place in the original sealed container, between +5°C and +30°C. Protect from frost, high temperatures, and direct sunlight.

SBR Admixture enhances the abrasion and chemical resistance of mortars, renders, and floor screeds, offering protection against continuous or intermittent water exposure, making it suitable for both internal and external applications. It is ideal for key coat applications on low-porosity or poor-quality substrates, such as old, flaky plaster. Additionally, it improves the adhesion and flexibility of screeds, making it perfect for repair patching of concrete and cement screeds.

Preparation:
Ensure all surfaces are free from laitance, oil, grease, and standing water. Unsound surfaces should be scabbled down to a solid base material. Stir the product before use.

Application:

  • Key Coat: Mix 1 part Bond It SBR with 2 parts cement by volume and adjust to a brushable consistency with water. Mix only enough for immediate use. Brush thoroughly onto a clean, dust-free substrate, then overcoat with the floor or render mix while still wet.
  • General Priming/Sealing (including Gypsum/Anhydrite screeds): Mix 1 part Bond It SBR with 1 part water. Apply the first coat with a brush or roller, allow it to touch dry, then apply a second coat at a 90° angle. Allow 48 hours to dry.
  • Damp-proofing: Follow the same formulation as the key coat and apply the first coat with vigorous brush strokes. After the first coat is touch dry, apply a second coat at a 90° angle. After 48 hours, apply the third coat at 90° to the second and apply the render while still wet.
  • Renderings/Mortars: For the best results, apply the key coat first. Mix sand/cement mortar/render and add 5-7.5 litres of Bond It SBR per 25 kg of cement, reducing the amount of gauging water. Apply at least 6mm thick, with two coats recommended.
  • Granolithic Floorings: Apply the key coat first. Mix cement, sand, and 3mm granite flooring chips in a 1:1½:1½ ratio. Use 5L of Bond It SBR per 25 kg of cement for floors up to 25mm thick. For thicker floors, use 2.5L of Bond It SBR and adjust water to create a semi-dry mix.
  • Patching Concrete: Apply the key coat, then use a 3:1 render mix for patching, feathering lightly.

Cleaning of Tools:
Rinse equipment thoroughly with clean water after use.

Limitations:
Protect from freezing. Do not use with cements other than OPC without consulting the cement supplier. Avoid using chloride-based frost proofers with Bond It SBR. Do not over mix mortar/render, and do not use when air or surface temperatures are below +3°C.
