Bond It Universal Building Render is a pre-mixed, weather-resistant render made from sand, lime, cement, and additives, designed for use on moderate-strength backgrounds and exposure conditions. It offers excellent adhesion, is tough, flexible, and resists penetrating damp, chipping, flaking, or peeling. The render allows walls to breathe, can be hosed down for cleaning, and is suitable for both internal and external applications. For best results, mix one 25kg bag with 4-5L of clean water using a mechanical stirrer, applying with a hawk and trowel.
Key Points:
- Weather-resistant and allows walls to breathe.
- Resists penetrating damp and will not chip, flake, or peel.
- Tough, flexible, and hosedown-friendly.
- Excellent adhesion and suitable for both internal and external use.
Shelf Life: 12 months from the date of manufacture, or before the date indicated on the bag when stored in unopened sacks.
Storage Conditions: Store in the original, unopened manufacturer’s bags in a dry place, away from extreme temperatures. Keep in cool, dry conditions between +5°C and +25°C.
Coverage: At a thickness of 16mm, one tonne covers approximately 35m², or 1m² per 25kg sack. For each mm of thickness, approximately 1.8kg per m² is required.

Universal Building Render is a single-coat base coat render that eliminates the drying time typically required for multi-coat render systems. Suitable for both internal and external use, it provides excellent weather resistance, durability, and water penetration resistance, while still allowing the structure to breathe. This render can be applied to most substrates, including properly prepared brickwork and concrete.
Limitations
Do not apply Universal Building Render in damp or wet conditions, or if frost is forecast within 24 hours. The application temperature should be between +5°C to +30°C. Avoid applying in direct sunlight or on hot substrates. It is not suitable for use over gypsum plaster or previously decorated surfaces.
Preparation
Ensure the correct grade of render is selected for the substrate and application, as outlined in EN13914-1 for external rendering. Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from contaminants that could affect adhesion. Poorly keyed surfaces should be primed, and any structural faults must be repaired prior to rendering. Mask areas where the render is to be applied, removing the mask before the material dries. For expanded metal lathing, ensure it is fixed correctly to reduce the risk of cracking, and include expansion joints as needed.
Mixing
Mix a 25kg bag of Universal Building Render with 4-5L of clean water using a mechanical stirrer. The mixture should be kept as dry as possible for the best results. If the mix stiffens, simply re-mix rather than adding more water.
Application
Apply Universal Building Render using a hawk and trowel in a single operation. For external applications, a 16mm thickness is recommended for sheltered to moderate exposure, or 20mm for severe exposure. Internal applications should be approximately 8-19mm thick, with a maximum thickness of 25mm. After application, allow the render to ‘pick up’ for 30-60 minutes, depending on weather conditions, before finishing with a plastic or wood float. Cure the render for 2-3 days before overcoating. In hot climates, light water spraying may be required to assist curing. Avoid rendering below the DPC or within 150mm of the ground to prevent dampness and discoloration. Clean tools with water; cured material requires mechanical removal.
