Trowel Mastic is a heavy-bodied bituminous mastic designed for filling joints, cracks, and splits in roofing and building materials such as roofing felt, asphalt, concrete, asbestos cement, and metallic guttering and drainpipes. It provides immediate resistance to water penetration after application, making it ideal for maintenance and remedial work.

Key Points:

  • Heavy-bodied bituminous mastic used for filling joints, cracks, and splits.
  • Suitable for various materials including roofing felt, asphalt, concrete, asbestos cement, and metal guttering.
  • Immediate water resistance upon application.
  • Ideal for maintenance and remedial work.

Coverage Rates: The typical coverage rate is 2 liters per square meter for a 2mm thickness. Drying time varies depending on weather conditions and the thickness of the applied film. Heavier applications may result in longer drying times.

Storage Conditions/Shelf Life: After use, securely replace the lid to maintain an airtight seal. The shelf life is indefinite when the container is kept sealed and stored in a dry area at temperatures between 8ºC and 25ºC.

Trowel Mastic is used to fill joints, cracks, and splits in roofing and building materials, including roofing felt, asphalt, concrete, asbestos cement, and metal guttering and drainpipes.

Preparation:
Ensure the surface is clean, dry, and free from oil, grease, dirt, and organic growth. Use Fungicidal Wash to remove moss and lichen. Wire brush bolt heads on roof sheets to remove rust before sealing with Trowel Mastic. For porous surfaces, apply Bituminous Primer to seal the surface and allow it to dry completely.

Method of Application:
To aid application, tools can be lubricated with white spirit or paraffin. Apply Trowel Mastic using a trowel or putty knife, pressing it into cracks and joints and smoothing it out. For cracks or joints larger than 3mm, reinforce with glass fibre scrim and apply a second layer of mastic.

Cleaning Tools:
Clean tools with White Spirit.
