Feb General Purpose PVA is a versatile product used as an adhesive, bonding agent, admixture, and sealer in various building applications. It bonds common building materials like wood, plaster, and concrete to themselves and to each other. As a bonding agent, it effectively adheres cement screeds, render, and plaster to surfaces like concrete, stone, and brick without the need for surface abrasion. As an admixture, it improves mortar and cement mixtures, enabling the application of thin, jointless floor toppings. Additionally, it serves as a sealing coat for porous materials, minimizing dusting on concrete renders, plasterboards, and granolithic floors.

APPLICATION METHOD / TOOLS

As an adhesive:
For smooth, flat surfaces, coat both faces with Feb General Purpose PVA diluted with an equal volume of water. Allow it to become tacky, then press the surfaces together. When bonding smooth wood to wood, apply a thin coat of neat Feb General Purpose PVA to one face only and press firmly. For large areas like laminated plastic, clamping or weights may be needed until the bond sets, usually after 24 hours, depending on surface porosity.

Dilution Rate:

  • As a sealer coat: 1 part Feb General Purpose PVA to 4 parts water.
  • As a bonding coat: Use neat and apply after the 1:4 sealer coat has dried. For non-absorbent surfaces, such as polished grano, the sealer coat can be omitted.
  • For very porous surfaces, prime with 1 part Feb General Purpose PVA diluted with 3 parts clean water and allow it to dry.

As a Bonding Agent for Cement Screeds, Renderings, Plaster, etc.

Ensure the surface is sound, clean, and free of contaminants. Seal the surface with a 1:4 dilution of Feb General Purpose PVA and allow it to dry. Then, apply a neat bonding coat of Feb General Purpose PVA. Apply screed, plaster, or render onto the tacky bonding coat, using established practices. Cure cementitious screeds and renders properly.

Bonding New Concrete to Old

Ensure the substrate is stable, clean, and free from oil, grease, or loose material. Apply a sealing coat of Feb General Purpose PVA diluted with 4 parts clean water and allow it to dry. Apply a bonding coat of neat Feb General Purpose PVA, then lay the new concrete while the bonding coat is still tacky. For maximum bond strength, add about 2 liters of Feb General Purpose PVA per 50kg of cement.

As a Surface Sealing Coat

To seal porous or dusting concrete or granolithic subfloors, apply two coats of Feb General Purpose PVA diluted at a 1:4 ratio, followed by a final coat diluted at a 1:3 ratio. Allow each coat to dry before proceeding. For less porous floors, the first coat may be omitted.

As an Admixture in Cement/Sand and Granoithic Screeds

Feb General Purpose PVA helps create thin, jointless screeds (9-18mm thick) without the need for setting out bays. For domestic use, mix 3 parts sand, 1 part cement, and 10 liters of Feb General Purpose PVA per 50kg of cement. For industrial floors or areas with heavy traffic, mix 1 part sand, 1 part cement, 2 parts 6-3mm granite, and 10-15 liters of Feb® General Purpose PVA per 50kg of cement.

Ensure the surface is clean and stable, mix mortar to a semi-dry consistency, and avoid adding excess water. Lay the screed onto the tacky bonding coat, tamping to ensure maximum contact. The setting time for sand/cement is 36-48 hours, and for granolithic, it is 24-36 hours. Allow 3 to 7 days before opening to traffic, depending on traffic severity and temperature conditions.

Coverage

  • As a primer/adhesive:
    • Neat: 1 liter per 6-12 sq m
    • Diluted 1:4: 1 liter per 24-48 sq m
    • Diluted 1:3: 1 liter per 18-36 sq m
  • As an admixture:
    • Add 10-15 liters per 50kg of cement, approximately 100-150 liters per cubic meter of mortar.

CLEANING OF TOOLS

Clean all equipment with water immediately after use.

LIMITATIONS

Feb General Purpose PVA should not be used in exterior applications or in areas subject to constant damp. For these areas, use FEBOND SBR instead.
