Sika Primer MB is specifically designed for use with SikaBond wood flooring adhesives. It provides moisture control on cement-based substrates with moisture content up to 6% CM, consolidates concrete, cement, anhydrite screeds, and refurbished substrates, and enhances adhesion on broadcast mastic asphalt and old adhesive residues.

APPLICATION

When applying Sika Primer MB, all standard practices for wood flooring installation must be followed.

Substrate Preparation:
The substrate must be clean, dry, sound, and free from oils, grease, dust, and loose particles. Paint, cement laitance, and other poorly adhering contaminants must be removed, with at least 50% of residual adhesive cleared (e.g., by grinding). Preliminary bond strength testing is recommended: compressive strength > 8 N/mm² and tensile bond strength > 0.8 N/mm².

  • Concrete and cement screeds should be ground and vacuumed.
  • Anhydrite screeds must be ground and vacuumed before coating.
  • Broadcast mastic asphalt requires excess broadcasting and thorough vacuuming.
  • Fiber-reinforced concrete must have exposed fibers burned off.
  • Follow the screed manufacturer’s guidelines.

Mixing:
Combine component B with component A in the correct ratio and mix at low speed (300–400 rpm) for at least 3 minutes until homogeneous. Pour the mixed material into a clean container and mix again.

Application Method:
Apply Sika Primer MB uniformly in two directions (90°) using a nylon roller, ensuring a continuous, mirror-like finish.

Cleaning of Tools:
Clean tools and equipment immediately after use with water. Once cured, residual material must be removed mechanically.

LIMITATIONS

  • Surfaces left exposed for more than 36 hours must be cleaned and inspected before over-coating.
  • Do not apply on substrates with significant vapor pressure.
  • Protect freshly applied primer from moisture, condensation, and water for at least 24 hours.
  • Avoid puddles on the surface.
  • When using SikaBond® Wood Floor Adhesives, do not broadcast sand on Sika Primer MB.
  • If leveling compounds (e.g., Sika® Level-200 or -300) are applied, a second coat of primer must be broadcast with quartz sand (0.4–0.7 mm) 15–30 minutes after application.
  • Wood flooring in areas without a damp proof membrane requires a Sika Primer MB and Sikafloor® EpoCem® moisture regulator system.
