ARDEX A 18 is a green powder containing aggregates and specialized additives that, when mixed with water, forms a slurry ideal for bonding ARDEX Screed Cements. This bonding slurry changes color as it dries, allowing users to easily see when it’s ready to receive the screed cement.

Key Points:

  1. Purpose: Designed specifically for creating bonding slurries for concrete and cement/sand screeds.
  2. Applications: Suitable for both indoor and outdoor projects, including swimming pools.
  3. Versatility: Ideal for joining daywork joints when adding new screed to an existing hardened section.
  4. Compatibility: Suitable for screeds with underfloor heating systems.

Coverage: Approximately 1.5kg of ARDEX A18 powder is needed per m² for each mm of application thickness, covering roughly 11.1m² at a thickness of 1.5mm per bag.

Storage and Shelf Life: Store ARDEX A18 in its original, unopened packaging, off the ground, in a cool, dry area, and protected from excessive drafts. When stored correctly, the product has a 12-month shelf life from the date indicated on the packaging.

ARDEX A18 is designed for creating bonding slurries to apply over concrete and cement/sand screeds. It is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, including in swimming pools. Additionally, ARDEX A18 is effective for joining daywork joints when laying new screed adjacent to an existing, hardened section, and is compatible with screeds containing underfloor heating systems.

SURFACE PREPARATION
The substrate should be dry or damp (without surface water) and must be rigid, clean, and free from dust, grease, or other adhesion barriers. ARDEX DGR Degreaser is recommended to remove oils, waxes, and other contaminants. Concrete surfaces should be prepared with suitable mechanical equipment to expose the coarse aggregate and eliminate any adhesion barriers. All coatings must be fully removed before application.

MIXING
Add ARDEX A18 powder to clean water in a clean container, stirring thoroughly to create a smooth, lump-free paste. Using an ARDEX mixing paddle with a 10mm chuck variable-speed electric drill makes the mixing process easier. The recommended mixing ratio is 3 parts ARDEX A18 powder to 1 part water by volume, with a 25kg bag requiring approximately 5.75 liters of water. The mixed slurry has a working time of roughly 60 minutes. Do not add water if the mortar begins to stiffen or set.

COVERAGE
Approximately 1.5kg of ARDEX A18 powder is required per m² per mm of application thickness, equating to about 11.1m² coverage at 1.5mm thickness per bag.

APPLICATION
Apply ARDEX A18 to the substrate using a brush to a minimum thickness of 1.5mm. Place and compact the screed cement onto the bonding slurry while it is still wet, indicated by a dark green color. After around 15 minutes, the color changes to light green, showing that the slurry has dried and another application will be necessary. Apply ARDEX A18 at temperatures above 5°C.
