ARDEX A 70 GYPFLO is a fast-drying calcium sulphate screed designed for quick application and early installation of floor coverings, allowing for completion in as little as 14 days—twice the speed of standard calcium sulphate screeds. This pre-blended screed requires only the addition of water, making it convenient and easy to use. Ideal for unbonded and floating screeds in internal locations, ARDEX A 70 GYPFLO is also suitable for repairing existing calcium sulphate screeds. Its rapid hardening properties make it perfect for scenarios demanding early foot traffic. However, it must only be applied to floors with a functional damp-proof system and is not recommended for areas with prolonged moisture exposure.

Key Points:

  1. Quick Drying: Allows installation of floor coverings in as little as 14 days, significantly faster than standard options.
  2. Easy to Use: Pre-blended formulation that requires only the addition of water for mixing.
  3. Versatile Applications: Suitable for unbonded and floating screeds, as well as repairs to existing calcium sulphate screeds.
  4. Moisture Considerations: Must be used on floors with an effective damp-proof system and is not suitable for areas with prolonged moisture exposure.

Coverage: A 25kg bag of ARDEX A 70 provides coverage of approximately 0.4 m² at a thickness of 35 mm.

Storage and Shelf Life: To maintain its quality, ARDEX A 70 should be stored in unopened packaging, elevated off the ground, in a cool, dry environment, and shielded from excessive drafts. When stored under these conditions, the shelf life of this product is up to 12 months from the date indicated on the packaging.

ARDEX A 70 is designed for creating unbonded and floating screeds in interior spaces. It is also effective for repairing existing calcium sulphate screeds. This product is particularly beneficial in scenarios requiring quick hardening and early foot traffic. Additionally, ARDEX A 70 is compatible with underfloor heating systems. However, it should only be applied on floors equipped with a functional damp proof system and is not suitable for areas with prolonged moisture exposure.

SUBSTRATE PREPARATION

Floating Screeds: For floating screeds, it’s essential to place an appropriate separating layer or damp proof membrane over the insulation prior to applying the screed mortar.

Unbonded Screeds: For unbonded screeds, ensure that the surface of the concrete slab is reasonably flat and true before applying a proprietary damp proof or slip membrane.

MIXING

A 25kg bag of ARDEX A 70 requires up to 5 litres of clean, potable water. It’s crucial to verify the actual water dosage using the flow ring test, aiming for a target flow of 280-320mm, and make adjustments as needed. Always add the powder to the water and avoid adding any extra water. ARDEX A 70 can be mixed by hand using a mixer drill or can be machine mixed and pumped. The working time of the mixed screed mortar is approximately 2 hours at 20°C, provided it is kept suitably agitated. This working time may increase at lower temperatures and decrease at higher temperatures, so ensure that the fresh mortar is placed and finished before the end of this timeframe.

APPLICATION

Apply ARDEX A 70 when substrate temperatures are above 5°C, and do not allow the product to freeze. Mix and apply ARDEX A 70 in a single layer to achieve the specified levels and thickness. Use a standard flowable screed tamping bar to move and level the mixture, working across the entire area in two directions. The first pass should be deep, followed by a shallower finishing pass.

DRYING TIME

ARDEX A 70 typically becomes walkable in as little as 6 hours at 20°C. Be aware that lower temperatures will slow the hardening process, while higher temperatures will accelerate it. The screed is ready to receive floor coverings when the moisture content measures ≤ 2%, which is generally achieved after 14 days under optimal drying conditions at 20°C.

Application over Underfloor Heating Systems: When ARDEX A 70 is applied over a hot water floor system, allow 3 days before increasing the water temperature to 20°C, maintaining this temperature for an additional 3 days. The maximum floor temperature can then be reached and maintained for another 4 days. During this time, avoid any draughts across the screed. The floor should cool to room temperature (above 15°C) before floor coverings are installed. Once hardened, ARDEX A 70 should be sanded to remove any loose materials before further treatment, ideally 48 hours after hardening but within 7 days.

SURFACE FINISH

Calcium sulphate screeds require priming before applying cementitious adhesives or levelling compounds. To prepare the surface, mechanically remove all laitance, loose debris, and dust to expose a sound, hard surface.
