ARDEX A 826 is a brilliant white, rapid-hardening, gypsum-based plaster designed to create a smooth, ultra-fine finish on interior walls and ceilings, perfect for achieving a true feather-edge finish. It provides an ideal base for paint and wallpaper, with a non-shrink, tension-free formulation that resists cracking even in thin applications. This plaster can be painted within an hour, making it highly efficient for creating a high-quality, smooth surface on a range of substrates, including plasterboard, pre-rendered walls, concrete backgrounds, aerated concrete, lightweight blocks, and construction boards.

Substrate Preparation
Surfaces must be rigid, dry, clean, and free from dust, grease, and other barriers to adhesion. ARDEX A 826 adheres directly to absorbent construction boards and cement or gypsum-based plasters, with most absorbent surfaces not requiring priming; however, a scratch coat is recommended. For concrete or highly absorbent surfaces, priming with ARDEX P 51 Concentrated Water-Based Primer and Bonding Agent is advised—dilute with 3 parts water to 1 part primer, apply with a brush, and allow to dry. Smooth and dense surfaces, such as varnished finishes and oil-based paints, may need priming with either ARDEX P 82 Water Dispersed Epoxy Primer or ARDEX P 4 Ready Mixed Rapid Drying Multi-Purpose Primer. If unsure, it’s best to perform a trial application using compatible primers.
Mixing
To mix ARDEX A 826, gradually combine 2 parts by volume of powder with 1 part by volume of clean water while stirring until a lump-free consistency is reached. For larger quantities, using a drill with an appropriate mixing paddle is recommended, while hand mixing is suitable for smaller amounts. Allow the mixture to stand for 2-3 minutes to let the high-performance additives dissolve fully, then remix to achieve a smooth, creamy consistency. The mixed product is easy to apply and has a working time of approximately one hour.
Application
The rapid hardening properties of ARDEX A 826 allow for smoothing and finishing entire walls in a single application, unlike traditional gypsum-based plasters that require multiple stages. It can be applied using a trowel, blade, or filling knife, filling holes gradually from the edges to prevent air bubbles. Any imperfections can be smoothed out with a damp sponge before drying, eliminating the need for sanding. If necessary, the hardened product can be sanded smooth, or additional coats can be applied after the initial surface has set. The product should be applied at temperatures above 5°C, and a 1mm layer typically hardens to a crack-free surface within 1-2 hours.
Thicknesses and Packaging
ARDEX A 826 can be applied in thicknesses ranging from feather edge up to 10mm, covering approximately 27m² at 1mm thickness. The product is packaged in paper sacks lined with polyethylene, with a net weight of 25kg. For optimal storage, keep the product in its original packaging, off the ground, in a cool, dry place, and away from excessive temperatures. With proper storage, the shelf life is 12 months; ensure that partially used bags are resealed.
Drying Times
Drying times vary based on application thickness and ambient conditions, with skim coats potentially drying in as little as 1 hour. Thicknesses between 0-3mm can be painted once the surface is sufficiently hard to sand. Priming is generally unnecessary after application, but to prevent uneven drying of paints on partial applications, it may be necessary to prime these areas or the entire surface with ARDEX P 51 Concentrated Water-Based Primer and Bonding Agent, diluted with 3 parts water to 1 part primer and applied with a brush.
