ARDEX A 950 is ideal for internal repairs, rendering, and smoothing on floors, walls, and ceilings, as well as for filling large cavities and deep sections. This versatile, deep-filling repair mortar hardens within approximately one hour and is formulated to be stress-free and shrinkage-compensated.
Ideal Uses:
- General Building Repairs: Fills large cavities and deep holes, such as those around door frames.
- Plasterboard Installation: Suitable for “dot and dab” fixing and securing plasterboard around pipework or apertures.
- Architectural Modeling: Can be shaped and smoothed with stencils for creating features like columns and pedestals.
- Smoothing and Leveling: Levels walls and acts as a floor screed in dry, internal areas.
Substrate Preparation: Ensure the substrate is dry, firm, load-bearing, and free of dust, dirt, or materials that could reduce adhesion. Remove any loose or flaky paint, plaster, and wallpaper. Priming is typically unnecessary; however, dense, non-absorbent surfaces should be primed with ARDEX P 82 Water-Based Epoxy Primer. For gypsum-based substrates like plaster, use ARDEX P 51 Concentrated Water-Based Primer, diluted with 3 parts water to 1 part primer, applied with a brush and allowed to dry. Always use compatible primers and, if unsure, perform a test application.
Mixing: To prepare 20kg of ARDEX A 950 powder, gradually add the powder to approximately 6 liters of clean, cold water while stirring continuously. Using an electric drill with a 10mm chuck and ARDEX mixing paddle can simplify the mixing process. After an initial standing time of 1-3 minutes, re-mix to achieve a lump-free, stable mortar that is workable for 30-40 minutes.
Application:
- Mixing Ratio: Approximately 1 part water to 3 parts powder by volume.
- Density: Fresh mortar is about 1.4kg/liters, with a material requirement of around 1.1kg powder per m²/mm.
- Working Time: The mortar can be applied to prepared substrates such as cement/sand screeds, concrete, particle boards, and securely fixed tile backer boards for up to 30-40 minutes.
Compressive Strength:
- After 1 day: Approx. 6 N/mm²
- After 7 days: Approx. 10 N/mm²
- After 28 days: Approx. 16 N/mm²
Drying and Finishing: Thin layers dry in about 90 minutes and are ready for a painted finish, while thicker layers up to 100mm dry within 24 hours under good conditions. For a smooth finish, gently rub down the initial hardened layer with a damp sponge and trowel.
