ARDEX AF 200 PLUS is designed for securing fleece-backed uncoupling matting to timber, concrete, and cement/sand screed subfloors before tiling. It is also compatible with standard underfloor heating systems.
SURFACE PREPARATION
Ensure adequate ventilation in the workspace. For uneven subfloors, use a suitable ARDEX levelling compound, such as ARDITEX NA or ARDEX K 39, to create a smooth, level surface. Although priming is generally not required, highly absorbent surfaces may benefit from priming with ARDEX P 51, diluted 1:3 with cold, clean water, to maintain the adhesive’s open time and optimize coverage.
For timber subfloors, ensure they are load-bearing, clean, dry, and free of dust or contaminants. Chipboard floors should be free of wax-based waterproofing, fire retardants, or any barriers to adhesion. Any necessary repairs, such as securing or replacing damaged boards, should be completed before applying ARDEX AF 200 PLUS.
For concrete or cement/sand screeds, confirm the subfloor is dry (below 75% RH) and contains a functional damp-proof membrane. If a damp-proof membrane is missing or RH exceeds 75%, consult ARDEX Technical Services.
NOTE FOR CALCIUM SULPHATE-BASED SCREEDS
Ensure calcium sulphate screeds (e.g., anhydrite or hemihydrate screeds) are dry, with moisture content below 0.5%, before applying the uncoupling matting. Typically, these surfaces are abraded (e.g., belt sanding) to remove any weak material. After preparation, prime with ARDEX P 51, diluted 1:3 with clean water, and allow it to dry. For added adhesion, ARDEX AF 200 PLUS can be applied once tacky. Depending on the gypsum screed supplier’s instructions, a sand-blinded epoxy primer like ARDEX R 3 E may be needed, followed by ARDEX Cement-Based Tile Adhesive to secure the matting.
MIXING
ARDEX AF 200 PLUS is ready to use; however, for best results, mix thoroughly to ensure even polymer distribution before application.
APPLICATION
Dry-lay the uncoupling matting first to ensure precise fitting. Using a B1 or 2mm x 6mm V-notched trowel, apply a ribbed bed of ARDEX AF 200 PLUS to the subfloor, allowing it to air for 5-10 minutes. Lay the matting fleece-side down into the adhesive while it is still wet or tacky, pressing firmly with a steel trowel and aligning edges. The matting should be installed within the 60-minute open time and can be adjusted for up to 20 minutes. Tiling can begin immediately.
