ARDEX AF 2365 is a versatile universal adhesive designed for installing a wide range of flooring materials, including vinyl floorcoverings, textiles, linoleum, and rubber with a thickness of up to 2.5mm. This adhesive is compatible with all ARDEX Latex and Water-Based Levelling and Smoothing Compounds, making it suitable for both commercial and residential applications. Additionally, ARDEX AF 2365 is appropriate for use with chairs that have castor wheels.
PRIMING
While priming is not necessary, it can be beneficial on highly absorbent surfaces to use ARDEX P 51 Priming and Bonding Agent diluted at a ratio of 1:3 with cold, clean water. This will help maintain the adhesive’s working time and ensure optimal coverage.
SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
The subfloor must include an effective damp proof membrane and be dry, with a relative humidity of 75% or below. If there is no effective damp proof membrane or if the relative humidity exceeds 75% RH, consult the ARDEX Moisture Control brochure or contact ARDEX Technical Services for guidance on product selection. The subfloor should be hard, clean, sound, and smooth, adhering to the relevant clauses of BS 8203, BS 5325, and BS 8204. Before applying ARDEX AF 2365, remove any dust using appropriate vacuum equipment, as dust can negatively impact both coverage and performance. For an even surface, any necessary levelling, smoothing, or repairs should be carried out with the appropriate ARDEX product and allowed to dry prior to adhesive application. Uneven subfloors can be levelled with suitable ARDEX Latex or Water-Based Levelling and Smoothing Compounds, such as ARDITEX NA or ARDEX K 39. For repairs up to 50mm thick, use ARDEX ARDURAPID A 45 Rapid Drying and Hardening Internal Repair Mortar as per the product data sheet. Where needed, install fabricated underlays like flooring-grade plywood (SP101) over existing timber bases, ensuring they are compatible with the floorcovering and at the appropriate equilibrium moisture content for service conditions.
MIXING
ARDEX AF 2365 is ready to use; however, thorough mixing is recommended to ensure even dispersion of the polymers before application.
APPLICATION
Maintain the installation area and subfloor at the temperatures specified by the floorcovering manufacturer and the relevant clauses of BS 8203 and BS 5325 for at least 48 hours before installation, during installation, and for 48 hours after installation. Apply ARDEX AF 2365 evenly to the prepared substrate using the appropriate serrated trowel, held at approximately a 60-degree angle to maximize coverage and prevent adhesive pooling. Floorcoverings should be placed directly into the wet adhesive on absorbent backgrounds after an airing time of 10-20 minutes, depending on ambient conditions and floorcovering type. Allowing the adhesive to air enhances initial grab. Only apply enough adhesive to cover within the working time. Periodically check for adhesive transfer to the back of the floorcovering, particularly for rubber materials that require transfer upon placement in semi-wet adhesive. Remove air pockets using a cork board or rubbing tool while the adhesive is still wet, and roll the flooring using a 68kg roller or smoothing tool. Start rolling from side to side, then end to end, ensuring good contact and minimizing the potential for adhesive serration grin-through. Some floorcoverings may require additional rolling or smoothing. Heat welding should only begin after the adhesive has sufficiently dried. Avoid wet cleaning the floor immediately after installation; allow at least 48 hours for the adhesive bond to develop at 20°C. When working with adhesive, dispose of any excess material moved across the subfloor into a separate container to prevent contamination issues.
UNDERFLOOR HEATING
Commission underfloor heating systems according to the manufacturer’s instructions; if unavailable, follow the guidelines outlined in BS 8203, BS 5325, and BS 8204. Gradually raise the substrate temperature, typically by 5°C per day, to reach full operating temperature, maintaining this for a designated period before gradually reducing it to prevent shrinkage before floorcovering installation. If moisture tests are needed to confirm the substrate’s relative humidity, turn off the underfloor heating system 48 hours before testing. After testing, or if moisture testing is unnecessary, stabilize the heating system to room temperature, not below 15°C, prior to installing the floorcovering. Repair or smooth the substrate surface with the appropriate ARDEX product and allow it to dry. Acclimatize the floorcovering to the substrate temperature before installation with ARDEX AF 2365. After installation, maintain a constant temperature for at least 48 hours for proper adhesive curing before gradually increasing the temperature to the normal operating levels. Avoid placing any static or dynamic loads, including loaded trolleys and furniture, on the flooring until the adhesive has fully set, typically 48 hours at 20°C.
