ARDEX AF 2525 is perfect for installing a wide range of floorcoverings, including vinyl, rubber, artificial grass, dense non-absorbent materials, and certain timber options. It is compatible with all ARDEX Latex and Water-Based Levelling and Smoothing Compounds, making it suitable for both commercial and residential applications, indoors and outdoors. Additionally, it is appropriate for use with chairs that have castor wheels. ARDEX AF 2525 complies with EMICODE EC1 PLUS R standards, ensuring very low emissions.

Priming: Priming is generally unnecessary; however, for highly absorbent surfaces, using ARDEX P 51 Priming and Bonding Agent diluted 1:3 with cold, clean water can enhance working time and ensure optimal adhesive coverage. Note that ARDEX P 51 should not be used in external areas; for further advice, consult ARDEX Technical Services.

Substrate Preparation: Ensure the subfloor has an effective damp proof membrane and is dry, with a relative humidity of 75% or lower. If there is no damp proof membrane or if the humidity exceeds this level, refer to the ARDEX Moisture Control brochure or contact ARDEX Technical Services for suitable product recommendations. The subfloor must be solid, clean, free from contaminants, and smooth, following the standards set by BS 8203, BS 8201, and BS 8204. Prior to applying ARDEX AF 2525, any dust should be removed using a vacuum to maintain adhesive performance. Uneven surfaces should be leveled with appropriate ARDEX Latex or Water-Based Levelling and Smoothing Compounds, like ARDITEX NA or ARDEX K 39. For subfloor repairs up to 50mm thick, ARDEX ARDURAPID A 45 Rapid Drying and Hardening Internal Repair Mortar can be utilized, following the product data sheet. Plywood joints, nail holes, and minor surface imperfections can be smoothed with ARDEX FEATHER FINISH before applying ARDEX AF 2525. When necessary, install flooring-grade plywood underlays (SP101) over existing timber bases, ensuring they are appropriate for the floorcovering and at the correct moisture content.

Mixing: Acclimatize the adhesive to the installation area’s ambient temperature, typically around 18°C. Combine the hardener (Component B) with the resin component, mixing thoroughly with a suitable whisk and slow-speed drill for about three minutes until fully blended. Use the mixed adhesive immediately.

Application: Maintain the installation area and subfloor at the recommended temperature specified by the floorcovering manufacturer and as outlined in BS 8203 and BS 8201, keeping these temperatures stable 48 hours before, during, and 48 hours after installation. Apply ARDEX AF 2525 evenly to the prepared substrate using a serrated trowel at a 60-degree angle to maximize coverage and avoid adhesive pooling. Floorcoverings can be placed directly into the wet adhesive, ensuring complete transfer to the backing; however, allowing the adhesive to air improves early grab. Only apply enough adhesive that can be covered within the working time of approximately 70 minutes. Check periodically for adhesive transfer to the back of the floorcovering. While the adhesive is still wet, eliminate any air pockets using a cork board or rubbing tool and roll the floorcovering with a 68kg roller, first side to side and then end to end, ensuring adequate contact during the curing process. Avoid spinning the roller on the floorcovering and do not leave it resting on the surface, as this may cause indentations in the adhesive. Do not wet clean the floor immediately after installation; allow a minimum of 48 hours for the adhesive bond to develop at 20°C before cleaning.

Underfloor Heating: Commission underfloor heating systems following the manufacturer’s instructions, or refer to BS 8203 and BS 8204 if instructions are unavailable. Gradually increase the substrate temperature, typically by 5°C per day, to reach the full operating temperature, maintaining it for a specified duration before reducing it again. If moisture testing is necessary, turn off the heating system 48 hours prior to testing. If testing is not required or after completion, stabilize the heating system to room temperature, ensuring it does not drop below 15°C before installing the floorcovering. After installation, maintain a constant temperature for at least 48 hours to allow the adhesive to cure properly before gradually returning to the normal operating temperature. Avoid placing any loads or moving furniture onto the flooring until the adhesive has fully set, typically within 48 hours at 20°C.
