ARDEX EG 18 PLUS offers the advantages of both epoxy and cement-based grouts, combining high performance with ease of application. This grout is known for its exceptional chemical and abrasion resistance, creating joints that are both hygienic and low-maintenance. Here are four key points:

  1. Durability and Resistance: ARDEX EG 18 PLUS excels in environments that demand high durability. It is highly resistant to chemicals, including aqueous salt solutions, chlorine, commercial cleaning agents, alkalis, and various dilute mineral acids. Full chemical resistance is achieved after 7 days at normal temperatures.
  2. Ease of Application: Unlike traditional epoxy grouts, ARDEX EG 18 PLUS is user-friendly and can be applied and cleaned up with ease. It does not require special tools and can be cleaned off within 60 minutes of application.
  3. Hygiene and Maintenance: The grout is impervious and creates hygienic joints that require minimal maintenance. Its resistance to staining and dirt makes it ideal for maintaining high cleanliness standards.
  4. Versatile Use: ARDEX EG 18 PLUS is well-suited for a variety of settings that demand stringent hygiene, including swimming pools, showers, bathrooms, shops, hospitals, hydrotherapy and spa baths, and sports centers.

In summary, ARDEX EG 18 PLUS provides a high-performance, easy-to-use solution for grout applications where chemical resistance and hygiene are critical.

Grout Coverage: To estimate how much ARDEX EG 18 PLUS grout you’ll need, follow these steps. Coverage depends on the size of the tiles and the width and depth of the joints. The coverage rate for ARDEX EG 18 PLUS is 1.5. Here’s how to calculate your grout requirements for square or rectangular tiles (all measurements in mm):

  1. Add the length and breadth of the tile together.
  2. Multiply this sum by the width of the joint.
  3. Multiply the result by the depth of the joint.
  4. Multiply that number by the coverage figure (1.5 for ARDEX EG 18 PLUS).
  5. Divide the result by the length of the tile.
  6. Divide this result by the breadth of the tile.

The final number gives you the amount of grout needed in kg per m².

Storage and Shelf Life: Store ARDEX EG 18 PLUS in a dry place. It will last for at least 12 months if kept in its original, unopened container.

Preparation

Before grouting, make sure that the tiles are securely fixed and that the tile surfaces and joints are clean and free from dust, excess adhesive, or standing water.

Mixing

  1. Safety First: Check the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for required personal protective equipment (PPE) before mixing.
  2. Combine Components: Pour the contents of both the resin and hardener into a clean, larger bucket. Mix them thoroughly until you have a uniform mixture.
  3. Add Filler: Add the filler to the mixture and continue mixing until you achieve a smooth, consistent mortar. Using a slow-speed drill with a propeller-type stirrer helps to avoid air bubbles.
  4. Back Mixing: To ensure all materials are used, transfer some of the mixed mortar back into the original resin and hardener containers, then transfer it back to the main bucket and mix thoroughly again.
  5. Working Time: The mixed grout will remain workable for about 60 minutes at 20°C. Working time decreases at higher temperatures and increases at lower temperatures. Avoid mixing at temperatures below 10°C or above 30°C. At high temperatures, spread the grout immediately to avoid self-heating and reduced working time.

Application

  1. Test First: Before applying, test the grout on a small, unused tile to check for any staining or scratching. For tiles that might be prone to scratching, like glass or natural stone, test in an inconspicuous area first. You might need a protective sealer.
  2. Grouting Process: Use a hard rubber grout float to apply the grout to the joints, ensuring they are completely filled and compacted. Remove excess grout from the tile surface as you work. Just before cleaning, mist the tile surface with clean water to soften any grout residues.
  3. Cleaning: Start cleaning within the working time, which is usually between 15 to 60 minutes depending on temperature and tile porosity. Use a damp sponge and clean water to remove grout. Avoid letting excess water pool on the grout joints.
  4. Final Clean-Up: After the grout has set, clean any remaining haze with a damp sponge or an emulsifying pad if needed. Tools should be cleaned with water before the grout hardens. Do not let grout residue sit for more than 24 hours.

Notes

  • Protection: Keep tiles and mosaics dry and do not use them until the grout has fully cured (7 days).
  • Special Considerations: This grout is not recommended for soft-glazed tiles or tiles with metal accents. It may yellow with exposure to sunlight, UV light, or heat; consider using ARDEX EG 18 PLUS GREY or ANTHRACITE for areas with strong exposure.
  • Staining: Clean spills like coffee or fruit juice immediately to prevent staining. For textured tiles, a Scotchbrite pad may be needed. If using acid-based cleaners, test them on a small area first and rinse thoroughly to avoid discolouration.
  • Cleaning Products: For tough residues, a proprietary epoxy grout remover may be necessary.
