ARDEX K 15 is a heavy-duty, rapid-drying, self-leveling smoothing compound that is pumpable and designed for efficient leveling and smoothing of various internal subfloors. Thanks to its unique rapid-drying properties, floorcoverings can be applied as quickly as 4 hours after ARDEX K 15 is laid. This product is ideal for leveling and smoothing uneven internal surfaces in a single application, including concrete, cement/sand screeds, porcelain, ceramic, quarry tiles, and anhydrite screeds, before floorcovering installation. It’s commonly used to correct issues like uneven or damaged concrete, camber adjustments between slabs, and renovation of aged subfloors.

Key Points:

  1. Rapid-Drying: Allows for floorcovering installation as soon as 4 hours after application.
  2. Versatile Applications: Suitable for leveling concrete, screeds, tiles, and more.
  3. Single Application: Levels and smooths uneven internal subfloors in a single layer.
  4. Renovation-Friendly: Ideal for adjusting floor tolerances, fixing damaged concrete, and updating old subfloors.

Coverage: Each 22kg bag of ARDEX K 15 covers approximately 5.25m² at a 3mm thickness, using roughly 1.4kg per m² per mm of thickness. Note: Coverage estimates assume a smooth, level surface; additional material may be necessary for rough or uneven surfaces.

ARDEX K 15 effectively levels and smooths various uneven internal subfloors in a single application. It is suitable for surfaces such as concrete, cement/sand screeds, porcelain, ceramic, quarry tiles, and anhydrite screeds, making it an ideal choice before installing floorcoverings. Its applications include smoothing tamped, uneven, or damaged in-situ concrete, addressing tolerance or camber issues between floors and slabs, as well as rejuvenating old subfloors and screeds during renovation projects.

Surface Preparation: The surface must be hard, sound, and free from dust, dirt, grease, paint, adhesive residues, and any loosely adhered materials. If adhesive residues are present, they should be well adhered and unaffected by water. Note: This product is for internal use only. Direct-to-earth subfloors must have an effective damp proof membrane (DPM). If the DPM is missing or damaged, or if the substrate is damp, please refer to the ARDEX DPM 1 C or ARDEX DPM 1 C R datasheets. For dealing with residual construction moisture, consider using ARDEX MVS 95. For further assistance, contact the ARDEX Technical Support Team.

Priming: All surfaces require priming. Thoroughly prime concrete, cement/sand screeds, and anhydrite subfloors with ARDEX P 51 Concentrated Water-Based Primer and Bonding Agent, following the dilution ratios specified in the ARDEX P 51 data sheet. This primer acts as a pore sealer, helping to maintain flow life and prevent air bubbles from rising through the ARDEX K 15 mortar. For very smooth, dense, and non-absorbent subfloors, ARDEX P 82 Primer and ARDEX P 4 Primer are recommended. Use a suitable degreaser to eliminate any contaminants before priming. If ARDEX MVS 95 is used, priming is not necessary before applying ARDEX K 15.

Mixing: Use 5.25 to 5.5 liters of water per 22kg bag. Add the powder to clean water in a mixing container, stirring thoroughly until a lump-free mortar is achieved. For thick applications or cold conditions, use the minimum amount of water. An ARDEX mixing paddle with a 10mm chuck and a slow-speed electric drill (600–1,000 r.p.m.) simplifies mixing. The mixed ARDEX K 15 should be applied within 30 minutes at 20°C; this time may vary with temperature. Note: ARDEX K 15 can be pumped using suitable floor screed mixer pump units; for guidance, contact the Technical Support Team.

Application: Pour the mixed ARDEX K 15 onto the prepared subfloor. The mortar will flow and self-level above 1.5mm during the first 15 minutes of its 30-minute working time. Use a steel trowel or ARDEX Pin Leveller to achieve the desired thickness, and a steel finishing float for feather edging and touch-ups. Apply at temperatures above 5°C. To prevent surface crazing and contamination, it’s recommended to install the floorcovering within 48 hours. If more than 48 hours pass, cover the surface until the installation occurs.

Applications Over Underfloor Heating: Heated screeds must be installed according to BS 8204 Part 1 and BS EN 1264 standards. Ensure the underfloor heating system is commissioned as per the manufacturer’s guidelines and the relevant standards. After commissioning and thermal cycling, reduce the underfloor heating system to room temperature (not below 15°C) before installing ARDEX K 15 and the final floor covering. Gradually increase the temperature afterward to avoid thermal shock and wide temperature fluctuations.
