ARDEX K 301 is a fast-setting resurfacing and leveling compound designed specifically for concrete surfaces. Here are four key points about ARDEX K 301:

  1. Composition and Setting Time: This grey powder is made from a blend of special cements, graded aggregates, and high-quality synthetic resins. When mixed with water, it forms a fluid mortar that begins to set within approximately 1 hour. It can typically be walked on after 2-3 hours at 20°C.
  2. Application Thickness: ARDEX K 301 can be applied in thicknesses ranging from 2mm to 20mm in a single coat. This versatility allows it to cover a range of surface imperfections in one application.
  3. Traffic Tolerance: Once set and hardened, ARDEX K 301 can generally handle light rubber-wheeled traffic after 48 hours at 20°C. This makes it suitable for areas with regular foot and light vehicle use.
  4. Uses: Ideal for smoothing and leveling concrete surfaces such as balconies, patios, driveways, garages, and walkways, ARDEX K 301 is also effective for filling holes and resurfacing damaged floors. It is compatible with concrete or bonded cement/sand screeds with a compressive strength greater than 30 N/mm² and a pull-off strength greater than 1.5 N/mm². Additionally, it can be used to pre-smooth floors before applying a damp-proof membrane like ARDEX DPM 1C/1CR.

This compound is highly practical for both new projects and repairs, ensuring a smooth, durable surface ready for various types of traffic and use.

Coverage: One 25kg bag of ARDEX K 301 powder covers about 3.0 square meters at a thickness of 5mm. This is based on using approximately 1.6kg of ARDEX K 301 powder per square meter per millimeter of thickness.

Storage and Shelf Life: Store ARDEX K 301 in its original, unopened packaging, off the ground, in a cool, dry place, and protect it from drafts. When stored correctly, it has a shelf life of 12 months from the date on the packaging.

ARDEX K 301 is designed to smooth and level various concrete surfaces including balconies, patios, driveways, garages, and walkways. It’s suitable for areas with normal foot traffic and rubber-wheeled vehicles. You can also use ARDEX K 301 to fill holes and repair damaged floors, including concrete and bonded cement/sand screeds (with a compressive strength greater than 30 N/mm² and pull-off strength greater than 1.5 N/mm²). Additionally, it’s ideal for preparing concrete floors before applying a damp-proof membrane like ARDEX DPM 1C/1CR.

Surface Preparation and Priming: Before applying ARDEX K 301, ensure that all concrete surfaces are at least 6 weeks old and fully cured. The concrete must be clean, hard, and free of oil, grease, curing compounds, and other substances that could affect adhesion. The surface can be either dry or damp, but it should not be frost-damaged or subject to frequent thermal or mechanical stress. Use a degreaser to remove contaminants, rinse thoroughly, and prepare the surface mechanically—through scabbling, grinding, or shotblasting—followed by vacuuming to remove dust and debris. For internal dry applications, prime the surface with ARDEX P 51 Primer diluted 1:1 for absorbent substrates or 1:0.5 for non-absorbent ones. For external applications, dilute ARDEX P 51 Primer 1:7 with clean water. Ensure no water or primer pools on the surface before application. In areas with heavy traffic or dense surfaces, use ARDEX R 3 E Solvent Free Epoxy Primer, sand-blinded while still wet, and remove excess sand before applying ARDEX K 301.

Mixing: In a clean container, mix ARDEX K 301 powder with water to create a lump-free mortar. Use a ratio of approximately 5 parts powder to 1 part water, which means a 25kg bag requires about 5¼ liters of water. Avoid adding excess water as it weakens the mortar. Use an ARDEX mixing paddle with a slow-speed (600-1000 rpm) drill for best results. The mixed mortar should be used within 30 minutes at 20°C, with the working time extending at lower temperatures and shortening at higher temperatures.

Application: Pour the mixed ARDEX K 301 onto the prepared, primed surface. The mortar will flow and self-smooth within the first 10 minutes of its 30-minute working time. Spread the mortar with a steel trowel or float, and use a gauging tool or ARDEX Pin Leveller for large areas. For gradient leveling or a broomed finish, reduce the water content. If a non-slip finish is required, reduce the water content and broom finish after about 40 minutes. Protect the applied surface from adverse conditions like rapid drying, strong sunlight, or frost until fully hardened. Apply ARDEX K 301 at temperatures above 5°C. If a second layer is needed, ensure the first layer is fully set, machine-sanded, cleaned, and primed with ARDEX P 51 Primer before applying the second layer. For dry indoor use, dilute the primer 1:1 with water; for external or damp areas, use a 1:7 dilution, ensuring not to exceed this ratio for external applications.
