ARDEX P 82 is a two-component, water-based epoxy synthetic dispersion primer and bonding bridge that is non-flammable and non-corrosive. It is specifically designed to create a strong priming and bonding layer on various substrates, particularly smooth or dense surfaces. Intended for interior use only, ARDEX P 82 is suitable for dry or intermittently damp areas and can be applied on floors with an effective ARDEX damp proof membrane, such as ARDEX DPM 1 C and ARDEX DPM 1 C R. This primer is an ideal preparation layer before applying ARDEX’s range of cement-based tiling and flooring products.

Key Points

  1. Two-Component Epoxy Primer: ARDEX P 82 is a water-based epoxy synthetic dispersion primer and bonding bridge.
  2. Priming and Bonding Layer: Designed for smooth or dense surfaces, forming a strong bond on various substrates.
  3. Interior Use Only: Suitable for dry or intermittently damp locations, for use on floors with ARDEX damp proof membranes.
  4. Prepares for Tiling and Flooring: Acts as a primer before the application of ARDEX’s cement-based tiling and flooring products.

Coverage: ARDEX P 82 provides coverage of 5 to 10 m² per kg of mixed primer, depending on the surface and application method. A 2 kg unit covers approximately 10 to 20 m², and a 6 kg unit covers 30 to 60 m². However, it is important not to exceed the maximum coverage of 10 m² per kg to ensure a continuous, even film across the entire surface. To maintain proper coverage, it is recommended to measure floor areas into 60 m² sections and evenly distribute a 6 kg unit of ARDEX P 82 over each section to avoid exceeding 10 m² per kg of mixed material.

Storage and Shelf Life: ARDEX P 82 has a storage life of at least 12 months when kept in its original, unopened containers.

ARDEX P 82 creates a priming and bonding layer on a wide range of substrates, particularly smooth or dense surfaces. It is designed for interior use only in dry or occasionally damp environments. It is suitable for application on dry floors with an effective ARDEX damp proof membrane, such as ARDEX DPM 1 C or ARDEX DPM 1 C R. ARDEX P 82 is ideal as a primer and bonding bridge before the application of ARDEX cement-based tiling and flooring products.

Surface Preparation

Ensure all surfaces are firm, sound, and free from dust, dirt, water-soluble materials, and adhesive residues that could hinder adhesion. Remove polish, wax, and grease using ARDEX DGR Degreaser before further preparation with mechanical equipment. If ARDEX P 82 Primer is being applied with moisture-sensitive flooring, ensure the substrate is dry (Relative Humidity below 75%) and, if needed, protected by a damp proof membrane such as ARDEX DPM 1 C or ARDEX DPM 1 CR. Use ARDEX P 82 on terrazzo, glazed ceramics, quarry tiles, porcelain, and other dense surfaces. It is also suitable for priming wood and wood-based panels, hard paint coatings, rigid metal, flooring-grade asphalt, and traces of sound adhesive residues on impervious surfaces. For further guidance, contact ARDEX Technical Support.

Mixing

ARDEX P 82 consists of two components (one red, one white) that must be mixed in a 1:1 ratio by weight or volume to produce an evenly colored pink liquid. Pour the required amount of Part A (red) into a clean container and add an equal volume of Part B (white). Mix thoroughly with a slow-speed electric drill and mixing paddle until a uniform pink color is achieved. For consistency, reintroduce some of the mixed material into both containers to activate any residue, pour it back into the mixing vessel, and re-mix. This ensures all resin cures for easier disposal. The working time for the mixed primer is up to 1 hour; discard any unused material after this time.

Application

Apply ARDEX P 82 to clean, prepared surfaces in a thin, even coat using a foam roller, short-pile paint roller, or brush, avoiding puddles. Allow the primer to dry into a clear, tacky film (typically 3 to 6 hours, depending on temperature and ventilation). If uncertain, leave overnight. The primed surface can be overlaid once dry, but if more than 4 days have passed or the film has lost tackiness, a second coat of ARDEX P 82 will be required.

Important Notes: Protective equipment, including goggles and gloves, should be worn during mixing and application. The thickness of any smoothing compound applied over ARDEX P 82 should not exceed 6mm. Ensure all safety precautions are followed, and always refer to product guidelines for detailed instructions.
