Ardex S7 Plus: Premier Waterproof Coating for Swimming Pools
Ardex S7 Plus is a high-performance waterproofing and tanking coating system is an advanced solution designed for application before the installation of ceramic tiles using an appropriate ARDEX adhesive. This system is highly effective in creating a durable, watertight barrier, making it particularly suitable for both internal and external swimming pools. Engineered for ease of use and reliability, this coating system offers superior protection against water penetration and pressure, ensuring the longevity of tiled surfaces in demanding environments. The system’s fibre-reinforced formulation provides enhanced strength and flexibility, while its smooth application process ensures a flawless finish.
Coverage –A 15kg bag will cover approximately 6.25m² with two coats applied. 1.2kg/m²/1mm dry (1.2mm wet).

Ardex S7 Plus is ideal for application in both indoor and outdoor swimming pools.
Substrate Preparation
Before applying ARDEX S 7 PLUS, ensure that the concrete, cement, screed, or render surfaces are mature, stable, and free from any adhesion barriers. Any existing coatings, such as chlorinated rubber paint, should be thoroughly removed using appropriate mechanical equipment. For existing Marbelite surfaces that are well adhered, preparation should be done using high-pressure water jetting or sand/water jetting to expose a clean and sound surface free of contamination. Cracks or joints that are not subject to movement should be treated with ARDEX SK-12 tape. For drain or pipe outlets, use ARDEX SK-M pipe collars as needed. If rendering of walls or screeding of floors is required before applying ARDEX S 7 PLUS, the following products should be used:
- Walls: ARDEX AM 100 One Coat Render (2mm – 30mm)
- Floors: ARDEX K 301 Levelling Compound (2mm – 20mm) or ARDEX S 21 Bedding Mortar mixed with screeding sand as needed (3mm – 30mm), ARDEX A 38 or ARDEX A 38 MIX Cement for Screeds (15mm – 50mm)
For isolated small-scale repairs, ARDEX A 46 Rapid Repair Mortar can be used. All products should be installed following their respective product datasheets. ARDEX S 7 PLUS can be applied after 3 hours at 20°C or 24 hours with ARDEX K 301. Note that ARDEX S 7 PLUS can be thickened, if needed, to fill localized holes before the two-coat application.
Mixing
To mix, combine a 15kg bag of ARDEX S 7 PLUS with 4 litres of water, using a mechanical mixer equipped with an ARDEX mixing paddle and a 10mm chuck variable speed electric drill (minimum 650 rpm) for efficient mixing. After 2-3 minutes of standing time, remixing the mortar will improve its consistency. The mixed ARDEX S 7 PLUS has a pot life of approximately 60 minutes at 20°C, with shorter pot life for thicker mixes or at higher temperatures, and longer at lower temperatures.
Application
Begin by applying ARDEX S 7 PLUS to the prepared surface using a 4mm x 4mm toothed and notched trowel (Stage 1), then immediately flatten the ribs to create a smooth surface (Stage 2). The coating should be 1.2mm thick when wet and 1mm thick when dry.
Limitations
ARDEX S 7 PLUS is generally regarded as non-hazardous under normal use. However, due to the presence of cement, the mortar has an alkaline nature, which can cause local skin irritation with prolonged contact. It is important to avoid inhaling or ingesting the dust and to prevent any contact with the eyes. For detailed safety information, please consult the Safety Datasheet.
