ARDEX X 60 PU FLEX is classified under the BS EN 12004 standard as an “Improved reaction resin adhesive with reduced slip for internal and external tiling.” This two-part polyurethane adhesive is designed for fixing various tile types to challenging substrates, making it highly versatile for both indoor and outdoor applications. Its formulation is particularly effective on problematic surfaces such as GRP, steel, and polyester, as well as moisture-sensitive interiors like particle boards, plywood, plasterboards, gypsum fiber boards, fiber cement boards, and plaster slabs. Additionally, ARDEX X 60 PU FLEX can adhere to natural stone, aluminum, and PVC coverings, providing a reliable bond. Once fully cured, it is water-resistant and easy to apply without the need for special tools.

Key Points

  1. Versatile Adhesive: Suitable for a wide range of tile types and problematic substrates, including GRP, steel, and polyester.
  2. Moisture Resistance: Ideal for interior applications where moisture sensitivity is a concern, such as with particle boards and plasterboards.
  3. Natural Stone Compatibility: Effectively adheres to natural stone, aluminum, and PVC coverings, expanding its application scope.
  4. User-Friendly Application: Easy to apply with no special tools required, and water-resistant when fully cured.

ARDEX X 60 PU FLEX is a two-part polyurethane adhesive designed for securely bonding all types of tiles to challenging substrates like GRP, steel, and polyester. It is particularly effective in moisture-sensitive interior environments, including particle boards, plywood, plasterboards, gypsum fiber boards, fiber cement boards, and plaster slabs. This adhesive is also suitable for adhering natural stone, aluminum, and PVC coverings. Once fully cured, ARDEX X 60 PU FLEX is water-resistant and can be easily applied without the need for special tools.

Substrate Preparation

The substrate must be clean, dry, and free from contaminants such as dirt, grease, oil, and old paint, all of which must be thoroughly removed before installation. For polyester surfaces, ensure they are roughened and all dust is removed. When applying to chipboard, any wax or surface coatings should be sanded off, and moisture content must not exceed 10%. Steel plates should be free from rust and oil. It is advisable to lightly sand all smooth, dense substrates to create a mechanical key.

Mixing

Combine Part B with Part A, using a drill and paddle at a slow speed until a homogeneous and uniformly colored paste is formed. The pot life of the mixed adhesive is approximately 45 minutes at 20°C.

Application

After mixing, spread the adhesive in small amounts onto the substrate to allow the reaction heat to dissipate. Use a notched trowel to apply only as much material as can be tiled within the product’s 60-minute working time. Position the tiles as necessary. Do not apply to substrates with a temperature below +10°C.

Cleaning and Disposal

For cleaning tools and spills, use ARDEX Heavy Duty Adhesive Wipes or a similar product. For Part A mixed with Part B, allow the residue to harden in the container and dispose of according to local regulations. For Part B, mix with water in the container and leave the lid off overnight before disposal as per local guidelines.

Trowel Notch Size/Coverage

  • Notch Size:
    • 3mm: Approx. coverage per 3kg unit – 2m²
    • 4mm: Approx. coverage per 3kg unit – 1.5m²
    • 6mm: Approx. coverage per 3kg unit – 1m²
    • 8mm: Approx. coverage per 3kg unit – 0.75m²
    • 10mm: Approx. coverage per 3kg unit – 0.6m²

Grouting

Grouting can begin once the tile bed has sufficiently hardened to prevent dislodgment, typically after 3 hours. Both ARDEX-FLEX Cement-Based and ARDEX Epoxy Resin-Based Tile Grouts are compatible with ARDEX X 60 PU FLEX. Light foot traffic can be permitted after 3 hours, but heavy machinery and equipment should not be placed until 12 hours post-application.
