Surface Preparation
Before applying ARDITEX NA, ensure that the subfloor is sound and completely free of dust, plaster droppings, grease, paint, polish, and any materials that can soften with water or are loosely adhered. Check any remaining adhesive residues to confirm they are not water-softenable and that they are hard, sound, and have adequate cohesive strength to support the levelling compound. On absorbent surfaces, dampen the area with water to minimize suction and pinholes, ensuring no standing water remains before applying ARDITEX NA. For mixes with high aggregate content or where a subsequent layer is needed, the dried ARDITEX NA may require damping down or priming. Use ARDEX P 51 diluted at a ratio of 1:3 with water for priming. Apply ARDEX P 51 with a broom or brush—avoid using a roller—and allow it to dry completely before applying ARDITEX NA. If the subfloor is damp, such as underneath a structural damp proof membrane (DPM), damp down with water before applying the smoothing layer. For moisture-sensitive floor coverings, ensure the floor is dry with less than 75% Relative Humidity (RH) as per BS 8203 standards and protected by a functional structural DPM before installing the final floor covering. In cases of rising damp or residual construction moisture, particularly with moisture readings up to 98% RH or if a structural DPM is missing, apply a suitable surface DPM like ARDEX DPM 1 C or ARDEX DPM 1 C R on top of the hardened ARDITEX NA. Alternatively, for moisture readings up to 95% RH where a functioning structural DPM is present, ARDEX MVS 95 can be used to suppress residual moisture.
Application
Pour the mixed ARDITEX NA onto the prepared floor surface and spread it to the desired thickness using a trowel or ARDEX Pin Leveller in a single operation. Apply the compound at floor temperatures above 5°C. To enhance the surface and performance, use a spiked roller while the mortar is still wet.
