EVERBUILD BLACK JACK 908 D.P.M. is a versatile, rubber-enriched bitumen emulsion designed for use as an effective sandwich damp proof membrane for floors. It also serves as a waterproofer for walls, above-ground structures, and foundations. Additionally, it works as an adhesive for various materials, including wood blocks, mosaic panels, insulation boards, expanded polystyrene, cork, and even as a plaster bonding agent on challenging surfaces. The product creates an impervious barrier to water and water vapor on most surfaces.

Everbuild Black Jack is ideal for the following applications:

  • Creating sandwich damp-proof membranes for floors.
  • General waterproofing of surfaces such as fiber/cement, render, and plaster.
  • Waterproofing structures like bridge abutments, retaining walls, and culverts.
  • Fixing wood blocks and wooden mosaic flooring.
  • Acting as a bonding agent for plastering challenging substrates like glazed tiles.
  • Securing insulation boards, expanded polystyrene, and cork slabs.
  • Serving as a curing agent for concrete.

 

 

SUBSTRATE PREPARATION

Before application, stir well. The product is brown when wet and dries black. Ensure all surfaces are clean, dry, sound, and free from contaminants that could affect adhesion. Base concrete should be finished with a wooden float for a smooth surface, as tamped surfaces may prevent proper coverage. Prime porous surfaces with Everbuild® 503 SBR Bond diluted 1:4 with water, then allow to dry. All work should comply with BS Code of Practice 102: 1973, Section 3 – Protection of Buildings from the Ground.

 

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Damp-Proofing Floors

  • Apply a minimum of 2 coats with a brush at 0.8 L/m².
  • Extend the treatment up walls to join the wall DPC.
  • Allow the first coat to dry before applying the second at right angles.
  • Once dry, cover with a 50 mm sand/cement or concrete screed.

Waterproofing Walls

  • Exterior walls: Level uneven surfaces, then apply 3 coats at 0.5 L/m² with a soft brush, allowing each coat to dry. Blind the final tacky coat with sharp sand.
  • Interior walls (moderately damp): Prepare the surface by removing wallpaper and loose paint, repair plaster, and apply 3 coats at 0.5 L/m², leaving a 300 mm uncoated strip at the top for evaporation.
  • Interior walls (very damp): Remove old plaster, repair masonry, and apply 3 coats at 0.5 L/m². Replaster after the final coat is dry.

Waterproofing Structures

  • Use on bridge abutments, retaining walls, culverts, and foundations. Apply 2 coats at 0.5 L/m² to sound, dust-free surfaces.

Fixing Wood Blocks and Mosaics

  • Wood blocks: Dip blocks into the product and place immediately (coverage: 1.1 L/m²).
  • Wood mosaics: Spread at 0.8 L/m² and place panels immediately. Wait 24 hours before use.
  • Underfloor heating: Turn off heating 48 hours before and after application.

Plaster/Render Bonding

  • Apply 2 coats at 0.25 L/m². Blind the second coat with dry sand before plastering/rendering (48-hour curing). For gloss/alkyd finishes, ensure a 15 mm plaster thickness.

Fixing Insulation Boards, Polystyrene, and Cork

  • Apply the product to the base and press insulation materials into the wet coating. Support boards if needed until the product sets.

 

DECORATING

Avoid using gloss, oil, or alkyd-based paints on treated surfaces. For plaster-treated areas, use lining paper with cellulose paste before painting or wallpapering. Do not use vinyl-coated papers.
