Adesilex P4 is a grey powder made from cement, finely graded mineral fillers, and a high content of synthetic resins and special additives developed in the MAPEI Research Laboratories. When mixed with water, it forms a semi-fluid, easily trowel able mortar that guarantees 100% back-buttering. This versatile adhesive can create beds ranging from 3 mm to 20 mm thick without undulations, making it ideal for external installations and areas with heavy traffic. Adesilex P4 accommodates substrate and tile deviations, bonds effectively with all common building materials, cures quickly with minimal shrinkage, and is resistant to water, weather, and frost.
Key Points:

Adesilex P4 is designed for bonding various types of medium and large tiles, including ceramic, porcelain, natural stone (if moisture-resistant and free from surface efflorescence), terracotta, and terrazzo tiles to both interior and exterior floors. It is suitable for smoothing all commonly used building substrates, such as clean concrete slabs, cementitious screeds, and existing floors made of ceramic, terrazzo, or natural stone.
Application Examples:
Solid-bed Fixing: Ideal for large porcelain tiles in high-traffic areas like offices, shopping malls, hospitals, and schools.
Stone and Terrazzo Bonding: Effective for bonding various sizes of stone materials and terrazzo.
Terrace and Balcony Installations: Suitable for bonding quarry tiles, klinker, or single-fired tiles.
Underfloor Heating: Compatible with all types of ceramic tiles installed over underfloor heating systems.
Adesilex P4 allows for the overlaying of ceramic tiles and stone on existing solid floors (ceramic, natural stone, cement, terrazzo), provided they are clean, and offers easy levelling and localized smoothing with rapid curing before tile installation. It also facilitates the rapid replacement of tiles while addressing substrate irregularities.
Substrate Preparation
The substrate must be fully cured, mechanically strong, and free of loose materials, grease, oils, paint, and wax, as well as sufficiently dry. Cementitious substrates should not shrink after ceramic tile installation. In spring and summer, cementitious screeds should be cured for at least 28 days unless they are made with MAPEI special binders such as Mapecem, Topcem, or Mapecem Pronto. New concrete requires a minimum curing time of 6 weeks. To cool surfaces heated by direct sunlight, dampen them with water. Gypsum substrates and anhydrite screeds must be thoroughly clean, hard enough for their intended use, and free of dust; it is crucial to treat these surfaces with Primer G or Eco Prim T Plus.
Mix Preparation
Combine Adesilex P4 in a clean container with 3.8 to 4.2 litres of clean water for each 20 kg bag until a smooth, lump-free paste is achieved. Let the mixture sit for 3 minutes before stirring again; the adhesive will then be ready for use. When mixed this way, Adesilex P4 has a pot life of approximately 60 minutes at +23°C and 50% relative humidity. If using thick adhesive or tiles, or when using heavy tiles, you may add 20% suitably graded clean sand to help prevent shrinkage or settling.
Application of the Mix
Use a suitable castellated or round notched trowel to apply Adesilex P4 to the substrate. The choice of trowel should depend on the substrate’s evenness, the tile size, and the profile on the tile’s back.
Tile Installation
Tiles do not need to be wet before installation, except if their backs are very dusty; in this case, dipping them in clean water is advisable. Place the tiles onto the bed of Adesilex P4 using a light twisting or sliding motion to ensure 100% coverage. The open time for Adesilex P4 under normal temperature and humidity is approximately 15 minutes, but adverse weather conditions (strong sun, wind, high temperatures) can significantly reduce this time to just a few minutes. To lengthen the open time, it can be helpful to dampen the cementitious substrate before applying the adhesive. If a surface skin forms, re-trowel the adhesive with a notched trowel; do not wet the adhesive after a skin has formed, as this will create a non-adhesive film. Adjustments to the tiles should be made within 30 minutes of installation. Tiles set with Adesilex P4 should not be exposed to washout or rain for 3 hours at +23°C and must be protected from frost and direct sunlight for at least 24 hours after installation.
