Elastorapid is a two-component adhesive, available in grey or white, that combines a special binder and selected silica sand (component A) with synthetic latex rubber (component B). When mixed, it forms a mortar that is easy to apply due to its low viscosity and high thixotropic properties, allowing it to be used on vertical surfaces without sagging, making it suitable for large, heavy tiles that can be laid from the top without spacers. This adhesive boasts an extended pot life compared to other fast-setting adhesives, facilitating application even in high summer temperatures. Additionally, Elastorapid can accommodate substrate and tile deformation, ensuring strong adhesion to a variety of building materials. It sets to a thickness of up to 10 mm without shrinkage and achieves high mechanical strength within 2-3 hours, enabling rapid installation and service of floor and wall coverings, including all types and sizes of ceramic tiles, natural stone, and slightly moisture-sensitive artificial materials.
Key Points:
Two-Component System: Elastorapid consists of a binder with silica sand and synthetic latex rubber, available in grey or white.
Easy Application: Its low viscosity and high thixotropic nature allow for vertical application without sagging, accommodating large tiles without the need for spacers.
Extended Pot Life: Compared to other fast-setting adhesives, it offers a longer pot life, making it suitable for high-temperature conditions.
Fast Bonding: Achieves strong adhesion within 2-3 hours, allowing for quick service of installed floor and wall coverings across various materials, including ceramic tiles and natural stone.’

Elastorapid is ideal for bonding various types and sizes of ceramic tiles—including single-fired, double-fired, porcelain, clinker, and terracotta—as well as natural stones like marble and granite, and slightly moisture-sensitive artificial materials (meeting the Class B MAPEI dimensional stability standard). This fast-drying adhesive is particularly useful in a range of applications, such as installing ceramic and stone floor coverings subjected to heavy foot traffic, as well as for quick repairs in public buildings, service areas, supermarkets, airports, and pedestrian zones, even in hot weather. Elastorapid’s extended pot life makes it easier to work with under challenging conditions, allowing for efficient tile installation on deformable substrates like marine plywood, stable wooden agglomerates, or old wooden floors. It’s also effective for rapid tile laying or repair in environments such as swimming pools, refrigeration units, and industrial facilities (like breweries and dairies). Additionally, it can be used to install large-sized tiles on façades, balconies, terraces, and sunroofs, especially in areas exposed to direct sunlight and thermal gradients. Other applications include laying tiles in locations experiencing high mechanical stress and vibration (such as railway underpasses and underground platforms), on concrete substrates and precast walls, on heated screeds, over existing ceramic or terrazzo flooring, and on surfaces waterproofed with Mapelastic or Mapegum WPS. It is also suitable for installing stain-sensitive stone materials, like white Carrara marble.
Preparation of the Substrate
Before applying Elastorapid, ensure that the substrates are flat, stable, mechanically strong, adequately dry, and free from any loose materials, grease, oil, paint, or wax. Damp substrates can delay the setting of Elastorapid. Cementitious substrates must not shrink after tile installation, and during favorable weather conditions, they should cure for a minimum of one week per centimetre of thickness. Cementitious screeds require a curing period of at least 28 days unless they are made with special MAPEI binders like Mapecem, Mapecem Pronto, Topcem, or Topcem Pronto. If surfaces are too hot from direct sunlight, dampen them with water. Gypsum substrates and anhydrite screeds must be completely dry (maximum residual moisture of 0.5%), sufficiently hard, and free from dust. They should be treated with Primer G or Eco Prim T, while areas with high humidity should use Primer S. For any substrate repairs or preparations, refer to the relevant MAPEI technical documentation.
Mixing the Adhesive
To prepare the mix, combine 25 kg of the grey or white component A (cementitious powder) with 6.25 kg of component B (synthetic latex rubber). Using a low-speed mechanical mixer is recommended to achieve a smooth, homogeneous paste by pouring the powder (component A) into the latex (component B). The pot life at +20°C is approximately 60-75 minutes, though higher temperatures may shorten this duration. The longer open time of Elastorapid compared to other fast-setting adhesives allows for easier tile installation, even in warm weather.
Application of the Adhesive
Apply Elastorapid to the substrate using a notched trowel to ensure proper coverage on the back of the tiles. Start by spreading a thin layer of Elastorapid on the substrate with the smooth side of the trowel, then immediately apply the necessary thickness with a notched trowel based on tile type and size. For mosaic pieces up to 5×5 cm, use a MAPEI No. 4 or 5 trowel (2.5-3 kg/m² consumption). For standard ceramic coverings, a MAPEI No. 5 trowel with a rhomboid notch is recommended (3.5-4 kg/m²), and for uneven surfaces or tiles with ribbed backs, use a MAPEI No. 6 trowel (5-6 kg/m²). For very uneven surfaces or large tiles with deep ribs, opt for a MAPEI No. 10 trowel (8 kg/m²) or a Kera floor trowel (up to 1 cm thickness). When laying ceramic or natural stone tiles externally or on swimming pool surfaces, apply adhesive to both the substrate and the back of the tile for complete contact.
Tile Installation
Pre-wetting tiles before installation is unnecessary, but if they are very dusty, a quick dip in clean water can be helpful. Firmly press the tiles down to ensure good contact with the adhesive. Under normal conditions, the open time for Elastorapid is about 30 minutes. However, unfavourable weather (direct sunlight, wind, high temperatures, or low humidity) or very absorbent substrates can reduce this time significantly. Wetting the substrate prior to applying the adhesive can extend the open time. Regularly check to ensure the adhesive remains fresh and does not develop a surface skin; if it does, re-spread it with a notched trowel. Avoid wetting the adhesive once a skin has formed, as this will create a non-adhesive barrier. Finally, surfaces tiled with Elastorapid should not be washed or exposed to rain for at least 3-4 hours and must be shielded from strong direct sunlight for at least 12 hours.
