Mapecem Pronto is a pre-blended, ready-to-use, quick-setting and drying mortar made with a special hydraulic binder, admixtures, and selected aggregates, designed to be mixed only with water. This simplifies its use by eliminating the risk of errors in dosing binders or selecting aggregates, ensuring consistent screed quality. It is especially useful where finding high-quality aggregates is difficult or in areas like historical town centres, where transporting and preparing traditional binders is problematic.

Key Points:

Pre-blended, ready-to-use mortar mixed only with water.

Quick-setting and drying with controlled shrinkage.

Eliminates errors in dosing binders or choosing aggregates.

Ideal for areas with limited access or poor aggregate availability.

Mapecem Pronto is designed for internal and external bonded, unbonded, and floating screeds on old and new floor slabs, enabling the quick installation of various flooring types such as wood, PVC, linoleum, carpet, ceramic, and natural stone. The screeds are ready for foot traffic in 2-3 hours and fully dry within 24 hours, allowing ceramic and natural stone to be laid after 3-4 hours, and moisture-sensitive materials like PVC, linoleum, and wood after 24 hours. It is particularly suitable for high-traffic areas like supermarkets, hospitals, and airports, and can be used in heated screeds without the need for plasticizers.

Preparation of the Substrate

For unbonded or floating screeds, any substrate is suitable for receiving a Mapecem Pronto screed. Isolate the substrate using polyethylene sheeting or a similar material. For bonded screeds, ensure the substrate is dry, free from cracks, dust, loose parts, paint, wax, oil, and grease. Existing joints in the substrate must be carried through to the screed.

Preparation of the Mix

Mapecem Pronto can be mixed using a paddle mixer, drum mixer, or forced action mixer. Mix a 20 kg bag of Mapecem Pronto with 1.5-1.7 litres of water for 3-4 minutes, ensuring the water amount is not altered to maintain performance. Tamping and floating should be done immediately to achieve a smooth surface. Each mix should be applied within 30 minutes of preparation, as surrounding temperatures affect the setting and drying times.

Unbonded Screeds (35-70 mm thick)

For unbonded screeds, the mix should be laid over an isolating layer like polythene to allow movement between the screed and substrate. Screed laying follows traditional cementitious techniques. Level guides should be prepared, and the mix tamped and floated to finish. A 1 cm thick isolating material (polystyrene, cork, etc.) should be placed around room perimeters or columns. For compressible substrates, areas with piping, or thicknesses over 60 mm, galvanized metal reinforcement must be incorporated per AS 3958.1.

Floating Screeds (55-70 mm thick)

The procedure for floating screeds is similar to unbonded screeds but includes insulation or heating systems. The insulation used must have high compression resistance and minimal depression under load. When incorporating underfloor heating pipes, they should be at least 25 mm below the screed surface, with reinforcement mesh placed above. For residential installations, this depth can be reduced to 15 mm. Underfloor heating systems can be commissioned after 4 days.

Bonded Screeds (10-70 mm thick)

For bonded screeds, apply a bonding slurry made with Planicrete SP immediately before spreading Mapecem Pronto. Ensure a continuous 2-3 mm layer is applied using a flat brush or trowel. Spread the Mapecem Pronto mix while the slurry is still fresh. For high mechanical stress areas, replace the slurry with Eporip. For thicknesses over 50 mm, incorporate galvanized metal reinforcement in accordance with AS 3958.1.
