MapeGrip D2 is a fully water-resistant, flexible dispersion adhesive designed for internal wall tiling with most ceramic tiles and mosaics. This non-slip adhesive offers high grab, making it suitable for both commercial and domestic showers and wet areas, but it should only be used for internal applications. Formulated from acrylic resins, finely graded mineral fillers, and additives, MapeGrip D2 is ready to use and comes as a viscous paste that is easy to trowel on vertical surfaces. Once applied, the adhesive provides excellent initial grab, allowing tiles to adhere immediately. It sets through the evaporation of water, forming a robust bond that can withstand normal vibrations in building materials.

Key Points

Water-Resistant Adhesive: MapeGrip D2 is designed for internal wall tiling and is fully water-resistant, making it ideal for showers and wet areas.

High Grab and Non-Slip: The adhesive features a non-slip formulation and provides high initial grab, ensuring immediate tile adhesion.

Easy Application: This ready-to-use adhesive is a viscous paste that can be easily trowelled onto vertical surfaces.

Strong Bonding: MapeGrip D2 sets by evaporating water, creating an extremely strong bond resistant to normal vibrations in building materials.

Mapegrip D2 is suitable for indoor bonding of all types of ceramic tiles and ceramic mosaics on walls, including slightly deformable substrates. It can be used for spot-bonding insulating materials such as expanded polystyrene and polyurethane, rock and glass wool, wood-cement panels, foamed-concrete elements, and soundproofing panels. Additionally, it is effective for applying absorbent tiles on cast concrete walls, gypsum plasters, sprayed gypsum, prefabricated panels, and gypsum-board walls. The adhesive can also bond absorbent tiles to painted walls and old tiles, as well as support large-sized tiles (up to 300 x 300 mm) on walls, and is suitable for installing insulating panels on plaster and expanded polystyrene ceilings.

Preparation of the Substrate

Substrates must be consistent and free from oil, grease, wax, crazing, loose particles, and laitance, as well as residual or permanent moisture. Cementitious substrates should be dry, allowing for approximately one week of drying time for each centimetre of thickness; failing to observe this may result in improper setting of MapeGrip D2. This adhesive can be used on gypsum supports and similar materials without priming, provided the surface is dry and solid. MapeGrip D2 is also effective for bonding absorbent ceramic tiles to painted or enamelled walls, including those painted with water or oil-based paints, as long as the paint is firmly anchored. However, application on walls whitewashed with lime is not recommended.

Application of the Product

Apply MapeGrip D2 to the substrate using a notched trowel. Select a trowel that ensures at least 65% coverage of the back of the tile in dry service areas and 100% coverage in wet service areas, with a maximum bed depth of 3 mm. For mosaics up to 5×5 cm, a square-notched mosaic trowel is recommended, with a consumption rate of about 1.5 kg/m²; for standard ceramic wall tiles, a 6 mm square notched trowel is suggested, with a consumption of about 2.5 kg/m². The open time of MapeGrip D2 under normal temperature and humidity conditions is approximately 20-35 minutes, so tiles should be laid within this timeframe. If the adhesive forms a skin, the surface must be re-trowelled. Avoid working at temperatures below +5°C.

Installing the Tiles

When positioning tiles, apply firm pressure using a twisting and sliding motion to ensure proper adhesive transfer. Any adjustments to the tiles should be made within 40 minutes, depending on the temperature.

Bonding Insulating Materials

Insulating panels, decorative ceiling tiles, and similar materials can be applied using either spot-bonding or full-bonding methods. Use a notched trowel, an ordinary trowel, or other suitable tools to apply sufficient MapeGrip D2 to ensure good bonding, applying the materials with firm pressure to achieve proper contact with the adhesive.
