Mapeker Rapid-Set Flex is a powder adhesive made from a blend of special cements, selectively graded aggregates, synthetic resins, and setting accelerators that achieve high bond strength within just three hours of application. This quick-setting capability allows for rapid installation of floors and walls, enabling foot traffic after three hours and general use after 24 hours. Once hardened, Mapeker Rapid-Set Flex is both frost-proof and water-resistant, making it suitable for various applications, including the installation of ceramic and porcelain tiles, underfloor heating systems encapsulated in levelling compounds, and plywood over boarding (minimum 15mm thickness). It is also ready for grouting in just three hours.
Key Points:
Quick Setting: Achieves high bond strength within three hours, allowing for fast installation and early foot traffic.
Frost-Proof & Water-Resistant: Once hardened, it offers protection against frost and moisture.
Versatile Applications: Suitable for ceramic and porcelain tiles, underfloor heating, and plywood over boarding (minimum 15mm thickness).
Ready for Grouting: Can be grouted just three hours after installation.

Mapeker Rapid-Set Flex is suitable for both interior and exterior bonding of ceramic and porcelain tiles, mosaics, and natural stone materials that are not sensitive to moisture. For light-coloured natural stone installations, it is recommended to use the white variant. This adhesive can also be used for spot bonding insulating materials such as expanded polystyrene, polyurethane, gypsum board, glass and rock wool, wood-cement panels, formed concrete blocks, and sound-deadening panels. Application examples include rapid installation or renovation in areas subjected to pedestrian traffic, quick repair work in bathrooms, showers, kitchens, terraces, and balconies, as well as the installation of marble and other moisture-resistant natural stones. It is also effective for rapid installation onto rigid plywood overlaid floors (minimum 18 mm thickness) and for underfloor heating installations that are suitably encapsulated.
Preparing the substrate
Mapeker Rapid-Set Flex can be applied to all stable substrates that are free of oils, grease, wax, and are sound, free of loose plaster, laitance, and crazing. It’s important to note that damp cement screeds can significantly prolong the setting time of Mapeker Rapid-Set Flex. For plywood overlaid floors, a minimum of 18 mm exterior-grade plywood must be used, fixed at maximum 300 mm centres in all directions to ensure a rigid substrate. Although Mapeker Rapid-Set Flex will bond tiles to plywood surfaces, best practices according to British Standards BS 5385 Part 1 and Part 3 recommend further protecting the plywood with a suitable waterproofing or anti-fracture membrane, such as products from the Mapeguard range.
Preparing the mix
To prepare the mix, combine Mapeker Rapid-Set Flex with clean water, stirring continuously until a smooth, lump-free paste is achieved, preferably using a mechanical mixer. The mixed adhesive should be used within 15-20 minutes before it begins to set. A 20 kg bag of Mapeker Rapid-Set Flex requires about 4.6-5 litres of water, while a 10 kg bag needs about 2.3-2.5 litres. After mixing, allow the mix to stand for a few minutes, then mix briefly again before application.
Applying the mix
Mapeker Rapid-Set Flex should be applied to the substrate using a notched trowel to a maximum thickness of 10 mm. When choosing a trowel, select one that ensures 65% to 70% coverage of the tile back for interior dry walls and 100% coverage for floors, exterior, and wet wall areas. For mosaics up to 50×50 mm, a 3 mm notched mosaic trowel is recommended, while normal ceramic wall tiles in dry areas should use the MAPEI V-notched trowel No. 5. For floors, choose a trowel appropriate to tile size and substrate regularity. For demanding applications, such as exteriors exposed to freezing conditions or large-format tiles, back-buttering the tiles is advised. In hot weather or for very absorbent substrates, dampening the substrate can help extend the adhesive’s open time.
Laying the tiles
Tiles do not need to be wet before installation; however, if the backs are particularly dusty, they should be wiped with a wet sponge. The open time for Mapeker Rapid-Set Flex under normal temperature and humidity is about 10 minutes, but this can be significantly reduced by adverse weather conditions or highly absorbent substrates. Regular checks should be made to see if the adhesive has formed a skin or remains fresh. If a surface skin has formed, the adhesive must be removed and replaced with fresh adhesive. Tile adjustment should be done within 5-10 minutes of placement. Tiles installed with Mapeker Rapid-Set Flex should not be exposed to washout or rain for at least 3 hours and must be protected from frost and strong sunlight for at least 24 hours after installation.
Grouting
Tile joints can be grouted 2-3 hours after application using MAPEI products such as Keracolor and Ultracolor Plus. For joints requiring good chemical resistance or where hygiene is critical, products from the Kerapoxy grout range, a two-component acid-resistant epoxy grouting compound, should be used. Expansion joints should be filled with Mapesil AC, Mapesil LM, or Mape ex PU21.
Spot-bonding insulating materials
Spot bonding to sound-deadening or insulating panels should be applied with a float or trowel, with the type and size of trowel determined by the flatness of the surface and the weight of the panels. The open time must also be monitored, and temporary shoring may be required for heavy panels until the Mapeker Rapid-Set Flex begins to set.
