Mapelastic Foundation is a two-component mortar formulated with cementitious binders, fine inert materials, inorganic fibres, special additives, and synthetic polymers in a water dispersion. When the components are mixed, they create a plastic consistency suitable for application with a roller or spray on both horizontal and vertical surfaces at a minimum thickness of 2 mm. The high-quality synthetic resins in Mapelastic Foundation ensure that the hardened layer is highly flexible and stable in various environmental conditions. This product is completely waterproof against positive pressure and withstands negative pressure of up to 1.5 atm (15 m column of water). It is resistant to soluble salts from seawater and ground conditions, offers excellent bonding strength on properly prepared cementitious substrates, and ensures long-lasting protection against water ingress. Additionally, Mapelastic Foundation meets the EN 1504-9 and EN 1504-2 standards and is certified EC1 Plus by the GEV Institute for very low emissions of volatile organic compounds.

Waterproofing solutions are essential for concrete and masonry structures exposed to positive or negative hydrostatic pressure. This product is ideal for applications such as foundation walls, parking garages, underground environments, basins, channels, and swimming pools.

Application Examples:

Waterproofing Retaining Walls: Protecting concrete retaining walls from water intrusion.

Waterproofing Underground Structures: Ensuring that underground parking facilities, cellars, sunken swimming pools, basins, and lift pits are safeguarded against water counter-pressure.

Waterproofing Breeze-Block Walls: Treating breeze-block walls that have been pre-treated with a suitable MAPEI mortar to enhance their waterproofing capabilities.

Preparation of the Substrate

  1. A) Positive Pressure (Water Under Pressure on the Surface)

Before applying the waterproofing treatment, ensure the surface is sound and thoroughly clean. Remove all cement laitance, flaky materials, and any traces of grease, oil, or mould oil using sandblasting or high-pressure washing. If the structure to be waterproofed with Mapelastic Foundation is in poor condition, eliminate damaged sections using manual or mechanical demolition, or by employing a hydro-demolition system. Following this, repair the affected areas with ready-mixed mortar from the Mapegrout range.

  1. B) Negative Pressure (Water Seeping Through the Substrate)

Similar to positive pressure preparation, remove cement laitance, paint, flaky materials, and any traces of grease or oil using sandblasting or high-pressure washing. Clear away gravel clusters and fill voids with Mapegrout 430. For construction joints, cracks, spacers, and pipework, seal these areas with Mapeproof Swell. If there is localized seeping water, apply Lamposilex hydraulic mortar to seal the flow before proceeding with further repairs. For penetrations, demolish the surrounding concrete, extrude Mapeproof Swell, and limit its expansion as previously described. Seal structural joints using Mapeband TPE tape, bonded to the substrate with Adesilex PG4 epoxy adhesive and dusted with 0.5 Quartz.

Preparation of the Product

To prepare Mapelastic Foundation, pour component B (liquid) into a clean container, then slowly add component A (powder) while stirring with a mechanical mixer. Mix thoroughly for about three minutes, ensuring no powder clings to the container’s sides or bottom. Let the mixture stand for approximately two minutes to ensure complete polymer dispersion, then mix again for another two minutes. Use a low-speed mechanical mixer to prevent excessive air from being introduced into the mix; do not mix by hand.

Application

Manual Application: Apply Mapelastic Foundation with a roller or trowel within 60 minutes of mixing, in at least two coats to achieve a final thickness of at least 2 mm. The second coat can be applied approximately six hours after the first, provided the first coat is fully dry.

Spray Application: Alternatively, use a rendering machine with a smoothing and finishing lance, equipped with a nozzle of up to 10 mm diameter, and an air compressor with a capacity of at least 800 l/min. Ensure a minimum thickness of 2 mm for each layer. For negative pressure applications, finish the surface of each coat with a trowel for a uniform seal. For positive pressure, it is recommended to finish at least the first coat with a trowel.
