Mapelastic Turbo is a premium, two-component, rapid-drying waterproofing and crack-isolation membrane designed for both interior and exterior applications beneath ceramic tiles or stone in residential, commercial, and industrial environments that experience intermittent wet or submerged conditions. This cementitious-binder-based membrane, composed of fine-grained selected aggregates, special admixtures, and synthetic polymers in water dispersion, can be easily applied with a roller or brush, creating a robust barrier that protects adjacent rooms and lower floors from water damage. Exceeding ANSI A118.10 and A118.12 standards, Mapelastic Turbo is compatible with polymer-modified cement-based mortars (ANSI A118.4 or better) and epoxy mortars (ANSI A118.3).
Key Points:
Rapid Drying and Installation: Tiling can begin in as little as 90 minutes, with flood testing possible after 3 to 4 hours.
Moisture Tolerance: Suitable for substrates with moisture levels up to 12 lbs. (5.44 kg) or 95% relative humidity (RH).
Flexible and Durable: Provides a smooth, flowable consistency and effectively prevents in-plane floor cracks up to 1/8″ (3 mm) from transmitting through tile and stone.
User-Friendly Application: Easy mixing and application with a roller or brush; low-odour formulation makes it ideal for confined spaces.

Suitable for interior and exterior applications, including floors, walls, countertops, and ceilings in residential spaces (homes, apartments, condominiums), commercial settings (airports, malls, office buildings, restaurants, fountains, and pools), and industrial environments (dairies, breweries, food processing plants).
Effective for shower pans, showers, tub surrounds, bathrooms, kitchens, food preparation areas, dishwashing stations, hospitality venues, servery and cafeteria areas, countertops, and laundry rooms.
Ideal for submerged applications like swimming pools, spas, fountains, and water features, provided they are completely covered with ceramic tile.
Highly recommended for multi-family or multi-story buildings where superior waterproofing is essential to prevent water damage in adjacent or lower rooms.
Appropriate for cantilevered balconies and decks over unoccupied spaces (see the “Limitations” section) and balconies, decks, and terraces over occupied spaces when used alongside a primary waterproofing membrane.
Designed for steam rooms and steam showers (refer to TCNA Handbook sections SR613 and SR614 or TTMAC 319SR and 321SR).
Complies with ASTM E96, Procedure E, as a low-perm waterproofing membrane and offers in-plane crack isolation for cracks up to 1/8″ (3 mm).
Suitable for use on interior/exterior building facades, with MAPEI’s Reinforcing Fabric available as an optional addition for coves, corners, and field applications.
Surface Preparation
Ensure that all substrates are structurally sound, stable, dry, clean, and free from any substances or conditions that may hinder proper adhesion. Avoid using chemicals, such as acid etching or stripping, for substrate preparation. For concrete substrates, a concrete surface profile (CSP) of #2 is required according to the International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI). If additional mechanical preparation is necessary, clean and profile the surface using diamond cup grinding or another approved method. When more mechanical preparation is required, the profile may increase, and the surface can be smoothed with coats of Mapelastic Turbo, not exceeding 5/64″ (2 mm) per coat. Maintain substrate and room temperatures between 40°F and 95°F (4°C to 35°C) during application and for at least 24 hours afterward. Refer to the “Surface preparation requirements” guide on MAPEI’s website for further information.
Mixing for Roll/Brush Applications
Prior to mixing, take appropriate safety precautions as outlined in the Safety Data Sheet.
Mix complete units using the following premeasured ratios: 1 U.S. gallon (3.79 L) of latex plus 11 lbs. (4.39 kg) of powder (small kit) or 2 U.S. gallons (7.57 L) of latex plus 22 lbs. (9.98 kg) of powder.
Pour all Mapelastic Turbo latex (Part B) into a clean mixing container and gradually add the powder (Part A) while mixing with a low-speed drill (about 300 rpm) for 2 to 3 minutes until smooth and lump-free.
Avoid overmixing to prevent air entrapment, which can compromise waterproofing. If a stiffer mix is needed for vertical applications, you may reduce the latex by up to 10% by volume. For smaller mixes, maintain a 1:1 volume ratio of powder to liquid. Do not dilute with other materials, and wash tools promptly with water after each mix.
Mixing for Gap-Filling Applications
To achieve a patching consistency for filling cracks and gaps, mix a small amount of powder and latex at a ratio of 2 parts powder to 1 part latex.
Use a margin trowel or patching knife to fill gaps up to a maximum of 1/2″ (12 mm).
MAPEI’s Reinforcing Fabric can be integrated with Mapelastic Turbo in these areas; refer to the application instructions for pre-treating cracks, corners, and coves (floor/wall intersections).
Product Application
Thoroughly read all installation instructions prior to proceeding. Fill all cracks, control joints, and gaps larger than 1/32″ (1 mm) with an appropriate filler material, forcing it into the cracks and finishing smoothly with a trowel. Allow it to dry and do not apply Mapelastic Turbo in layers exceeding 5/64″ (2 mm). MAPEI’s optional Reinforcing Fabric and Mapeband accessories (cove roll and drain flashing) can be used in the areas specified. For pre-treating cracks, corners, and coves, apply Mapelastic Turbo liquid 6″ (15 cm) on both sides and let it dry before applying a second coat. For drains, follow the manufacturer’s instructions for waterproof membrane installation, ensuring proper sealing and application around drain flanges and penetrations. Finally, apply Mapelastic Turbo to the entire area to be waterproofed, including previously coated areas, using a 3/8″ (10 mm) nap roller to achieve a wet film thickness of 20 mils, and let it dry. After 50 to 60 minutes, apply a second coat at 10 to 15 mils, allowing for a total minimum thickness of 30 mils combined. Inspect for pinholes or uncovered areas and recoat as necessary. Complete the installation by sealing around the drain flange and any other penetrations with silicone or urethane sealant to prevent voids.
