Mapestone TFB 60 is a pre-blended mortar consisting of specialized binders, selected aggregates with a maximum size of 3 mm, and specific additives, making it highly durable and suitable for installation screeds. This mortar is designed to withstand freezing weather and de-icing salts, offering exceptional strength and resistance to harsh environmental conditions. It is easy to use, requiring only water for mixing, which eliminates potential dosing errors related to the binder and aggregates that could compromise the performance of the final product. Mapestone TFB 60 can be prepared in either a plastic or “no-slump” consistency, depending on the installation requirements, and is ideal for areas subjected to dry/damp cycles, complying with exposure class XF4 for architectonic stone flooring applications.
Key Points:
High Durability: Resistant to freezing weather, de-icing salts, acid, and sea spray, with exceptional strength.
User-Friendly: Pre-blended and ready to use; just add water and mix for 3 minutes to avoid dosing errors.
Versatile Consistency: Can be prepared in plastic or “no-slump” consistency, suitable for various materials.
Compliant with Standards: Meets UNI 11714-1 standards and is ideal for heavy vehicle traffic, suitable for EN 206 exposure classes XF4 and XS3.

Mapestone TFB 60 is designed for use as bedding mortar in the installation of natural stone architectural flooring that can withstand vehicular traffic. It is ideal for a variety of applications, including squares, roads, pavements, parking lots, pedestrian crossings, roundabouts, and speed humps. This versatile mortar is suitable for installing small blocks, thin-section bricks or brick slips, cobblestones, slabs, and larger blocks, making it a reliable choice for various outdoor settings.
Substrate Preparation
To ensure the durability of the flooring, the substrate must be designed and prepared to withstand the expected stresses and loads, such as using a concrete floor slab with electro-welded reinforcement mesh.
Substrate Disconnection: Disconnect the substrate (e.g., a reinforced concrete floor slab with fibres or electro-welded reinforcement mesh) from the flooring by using non-woven fabric or PVC sheeting before setting up the installation screed.
Expansion Joints: Form expansion joints as required.
Mixing Mapestone TFB 60: Mix Mapestone TFB 60 with the appropriate amount of water according to the type of flooring to be installed, using a mechanical mixer (e.g., in a bucket with a worm-screw mixing attachment):
For slabs and bricks, mix with water to achieve a plastic consistency (approximately 9%). This same consistency may also be used for laying straight rows of small blocks.
For small blocks, thin-section bricks/brick slips, and cobblestones, mix with water to achieve a “no-slump” consistency (approximately 7%).
Layer Application: Spread a 5-7 cm thick layer of Mapestone TFB 60 in small areas at a time, ensuring that the consistency of the mortar remains uniform to maintain its characteristics.
Applying Bonding Slurry: If the flooring consists of slabs, apply a bonding slurry made from 1 kg of Planicrete, 1 kg of water, and 3 to 4 kg of cement to the back of the slabs before laying them on the fresh Mapestone TFB 60 installation layer.
Stone Installation: Lay the stone in the desired pattern, leaving a 5 to 15 mm gap around each piece. When using Mapestone TFB 60 with a “no-slump” consistency, wet the flooring to hydrate the installation layer and tamp the stone surface.
Preparing for Grouting: Before pouring the grouting mortar into the joints, sprinkle water on the stone surface, clean the joints, and remove any standing water or uneven or loose areas.
Grouting Technique: To create monolithic flooring, grout the joints with Mapestone PFS 2 Visco immediately after installing the stone using the “fresh on fresh” technique, before the installation layer has fully set.
Once grouting is complete, protect the flooring for at least 12 hours to prevent rapid drying and maintain the correct temperature, taking into account surrounding conditions such as high temperatures, rain, or cold weather. Flooring installed using the Mapestone System is set for foot traffic after 12-24 hours and vehicle traffic after just 7 days at +20°C. Note that lower temperatures (below +15°C) will significantly increase the time required for setting to foot and vehicle traffic.
