Rapid Level CT 3220 is a fast setting smoothing and levelling compound designed for both new and existing floors in commercial and domestic settings. This grey powder, composed of special cements, graded silica sands, resins, and unique additives developed in MAPEI’s R&D laboratories, becomes a highly fluid and workable mortar when mixed with water. Rapid Level CT 3220 allows for trowel application and can be laid in thicknesses ranging from 3 to 20 mm in a single coat, making it ideal for a variety of flooring projects. Notably, it is compatible with underfloor and under-tile heating systems, achieving high compressive strength while remaining resistant to shrinkage, cracking, and crazing. After just 45 minutes, ceramic, porcelain, or natural stone tiles can be installed, ensuring minimal downtime for renovations.

Rapid Level CT 3220 is designed for internal use, allowing for levelling, smoothing, and filling differences of 3 to 20 mm in a single application. It is compatible with various substrates, including new or existing concrete, screeds, stone, ceramic tiles, and over-boarded timber floors. This versatile compound is suitable for areas subjected to castor wheels and can be applied over screeds with underfloor heating systems, as well as for encapsulating electrical under-tile heating systems.

Preparation of the Substrate

The substrate must be dry, clean, and structurally sound, free from dust, loose particles, grease, paint, oil, plaster, laitance, residues, or any other contaminants that could impair adhesion. Cementitious screeds that are not sufficiently compacted should be removed or, if possible, consolidated using Mapei Prosfas or Primer EP. Any cracks in the substrate should be repaired with MAPEI Eporip. For priming, use Mapei Eco Prim T Plus. Non-absorbent or difficult substrates require priming with Mapei Eco Prim Grip Plus. Plywood boards must be a minimum of 15 mm thick and externally graded, screwed down at a maximum of 300 mm centres to prevent differential movement between the boards. Anhydrite screeds can be levelled with Rapid Level CT 3220 if sufficiently dry but must first be abraded to remove surface laitance and primed with Mapei Eco Prim T Plus (diluted with water at a 1:2 ratio). Ceramic and natural stone substrates must be cleaned, degreased, mechanically abraded, and primed with MAPEI Eco Prim Grip Plus.

Preparing the Mix

To prepare the mix, pour a 20 kg bag of Rapid Level CT 3220 into a bucket containing 3.2–3.4 litres of clean water, then mix with a variable speed electric drill and paddle until a homogeneous, lump-free consistency is achieved. Let the mixture stand for 2–3 minutes before mixing again for an additional 30 seconds. It is important to use the quantity of Rapid Level CT 3220 mixed within the 10 minutes working time (at +23°C).

Application

Apply Rapid Level CT 3220 in a single coat, achieving a thickness between 3 and 20 mm. To minimize aeration, a spiked roller can be used. The self-levelling properties of Rapid Level CT 3220 will create a suitable surface for ceramic, porcelain, or natural stone tile finishes, ready for installation after just 45 minutes.
