Ultralite S2 Quick is a one-component, high-performance, lightweight cementitious adhesive is highly deformable, rapid-setting, and hydrating, with extended open time and excellent trowel ability. It features a high wetting capacity and extremely high yield, making it ideal for bonding ceramic tiles and natural stone, especially thin porcelain tiles. It can be used on both internal and external substrates, effectively adhering to various tile types, including double-fired, single-fired, klinker, and terracotta. Additionally, it is suitable for installing mosaics, including in swimming pools, and can bond standard ceramic and porcelain tiles directly over cable under tile heating systems. Its design accommodates large floor areas and large-format tiles without requiring back buttering, while its high wetting capacity ensures effective application for thin porcelain tiles using the double buttering technique.
Key Points
Versatile Applications: Bonds all types and sizes of ceramic tiles and natural stone on internal and external surfaces.
Ideal for Thin Porcelain: Particularly suited for thin porcelain tiles, allowing for direct application without back buttering.
High Performance: Offers rapid setting, extended open time, and high wetting capacity for effective adhesion.
Effective in Large Areas: Designed for large floor spaces and suitable for bonding mosaics, including in swimming pools.

Capable of bonding all types and sizes of ceramic tiles, including double-fired, single-fired, porcelain, klinker, and terracotta, to both internal and external substrates.
Suitable for bonding natural stone to internal and external surfaces.
Effective for installing all types and sizes of thin porcelain tiles on floors and walls, including external façades.
Designed for bonding various mosaics on internal and external substrates, even in swimming pools.
Allows for the direct bonding of standard ceramic and porcelain tiles over cable undertile heating systems.
This adhesive is particularly well-suited for large floor areas and the installation of large-format tiles without the need for back buttering. Its high wetting capacity makes it especially effective for laying thin porcelain tiles using the double buttering technique.
Application Examples:
- Single-fired, double-fired, klinker, terracotta, porcelain, and thin porcelain tiles, as well as ceramic and glass mosaics.
- Natural stone, including marble and granite, that requires rapid adhesives for:
- No-slump consistency cementitious screeds, self-levelling cementitious screeds, and anhydrite screeds (after applying a suitable primer).
- Heated screeds.
- Cementitious or lime-mortar render.
- Gypsum-based render (after applying a suitable primer).
- Plasterboard, precast panels, and cement-bonded panels.
- Waterproof membranes such as Mapelastic, Mapelastic Smart, Mapelastic AquaDefense, and Mapegum WPS.
- Ideal for rapid restoration work or areas needing immediate service, such as public spaces, motorway service stations, supermarkets, airports, and pedestrian areas. Unlike other rapid-setting cementitious adhesives, Ultralite S2 Quick offers extended workability, making it suitable for summer use and high temperatures.
- Facilitates overlaying existing ceramic or stone flooring with new tiles, avoiding delays caused by longer setting times of standard adhesives.
- Effective for installations on marine plywood, wooden agglomerates, and stable old wooden floors.
- Suitable for installing ceramic and stone tiles on façades, balconies, terraces, and paving slabs exposed to direct sunlight and thermal gradients.
- Works well on precast concrete walls and various concrete substrates.
Preparation of the Substrate
The substrate must be mechanically strong and free from loose materials, grease, oil, paint, wax, and other contaminants. It should also be sufficiently cured. Cementitious substrates must not shrink after tile installation. In favourable weather, render should be cured for a minimum of one week per centimetre of thickness, while cementitious screeds must cure for at least 21 days unless made with special MAPEI binders like Mapecem and Topcem, or preblended mortars such as Mapecem Pronto and Topcem Pronto. If the surface is excessively hot due to direct sunlight, it should be cooled with water. Gypsum substrates and anhydrite screeds must be completely dry, hard enough for their intended use, and free of dust. When using anhydrite screeds, ensure that all surface laitance is mechanically removed before further work. Prime the prepared dry area with either Primer G (neat) or Eco Prim T Plus (diluted 1:2 with clean water). Substrates for thin porcelain tiles must be perfectly flat; if necessary, level the substrate with a smoothing compound from the MAPEI range.
Preparation of the Mix
Mix Ultralite S2 Quick with clean water to achieve a smooth, lump-free consistency. Allow the mix to stand for about 5 minutes, then stir again. For each 15 kg bag, use approximately 4.6-5.1 litres of water for grey and 4.9-5.2 litres for white. When mixed as specified, the blend remains workable for approximately 50 minutes.
Applying the Product
Apply Ultralite S2 Quick to the substrate using a notched trowel, selecting a notch size that ensures complete coverage of the tile’s back. For a strong bond, first apply a thin layer of Ultralite S2 Quick using the smooth side of the trowel, then immediately apply a thicker layer with a suitable notched trowel, ensuring the backs of the tiles are adequately buttered. When fixing tiles on walls and floors externally, especially for tiles larger than 900 cm² or in heavy-load areas, full buttering of the tiles is essential. For thin porcelain tiles, it is recommended to also spread adhesive on the tile backs to eliminate gaps and reduce the risk of fractures during use.
Installing the Tiles
Tiles do not need to be wet prior to installation; however, if the backs are particularly dusty, rinse them in clean water. When fixing the tiles, apply firm pressure and a twisting/sliding motion to ensure complete contact. The open time for Ultralite S2 Quick is at least 30 minutes under normal weather and humidity conditions. In less-than-ideal conditions (such as direct sunlight, dry wind, or high temperatures), or if the substrate is highly absorbent, this time may be reduced to only a few minutes. Regularly check the adhesive to ensure no skin forms on the surface; if it does, re-spread the adhesive with the notched trowel. Do not wet the adhesive surface if skin forms, as water will not dissolve it and may create a film that impedes bonding. Final adjustments to the tiles should be made within 15 minutes of installation. Tiled finishes set with Ultralite S2 Quick must be protected from water and rain for at least 3-4 hours and shielded from frost and direct sunlight for at least 24 hours.
