Soudal Soudaseal High Tack is suitable for the following applications:
- Application of seals and bonds within the building and construction sector.
- Structural bonding for constructions prone to vibrations.
- Elastic bonding for panels, profiles, and other components on prevalent substrates (e.g., wood, MDF, chipboard).
- Bonding small items such as decorations and profiles.
- Elastic structural bonding within the automotive and container industries.
- Adhesion of insulation panels.
- Attaching PVC cable trays.
- Flexible bonding for shipbuilding.
APPLICATION
Substrates
- Types of Substrates: All common building substrates, as well as treated wood, PVC, and various plastics.
- Nature of Substrates: Substrates should be rigid, clean, dry, and devoid of dust or grease.
- Surface Preparation: Porous surfaces intended for water-loaded applications should be primed using Primer 150. Non-porous surfaces need preparation using a Soudal activator or cleaner (refer to the Technical Data Sheet).
- Adhesion Testing: Soudaseal High Tack displays excellent adhesion on most substrates. It is advisable to conduct a preliminary adhesion test on each surface.
Compatibility with Metals and Plastics
- Soudaseal High Tack has been successfully tested on various metal surfaces, including stainless steel, AlMgSi1, electro-galvanized steel, AlCuMg1, hot dip galvanized steel, AlMg3, and steel ST1403.
- Additionally, it exhibits good adhesion to plastics like polystyrene, polycarbonate (Makrolon®), PVC, ABS, polyamide, PMMA, fiberglass reinforced epoxy, and polyester.
- Note: It is not recommended for bonding PMMA (e.g., Plexi® glass) and polycarbonate (e.g., Makrolon® or Lexan®) in stress-loaded applications due to potential stress cracking and crazing. Avoid using on PE, PP, PTFE (e.g., Teflon®), bituminous substrates, copper, or copper-containing materials like bronze and brass. Conduct a preliminary adhesion and compatibility test on each surface.
Joint Dimensions
- Minimum Joint Depth: 5 mm
- Recommendation for Sealing Jobs: Joint width should be approximately twice the joint depth.
Application Method
- How to Apply: Utilize a manual or pneumatic caulking gun for application.
- Cleaning: After use, clean using Soudal Surface Cleaner or Soudal Swipex.
- Finishing: Prior to skinning, finish by applying a soapy solution or Soudal Finishing Solution.
- Repairs: Use the same material for any necessary repairs.
Health and Safety Recommendations
- Follow standard labor hygiene practices and refer to the label and material safety data sheet for detailed information.
LIMITATIONS
- Painting Over Soudaseal High Tack:
- Soudaseal High Tack can be painted over using water-based paints. Due to the wide variety of paints and varnishes available, we strongly recommend conducting a compatibility test before application.
- Drying Time with Alkyd Resin Based Paints:
- Drying time may be extended when using alkyd resin based paints.
- Preparation for Plastics Bonding:
- In the production of plastics, releasing agents, processing aids, and protective agents like protective foil are often used. These should be removed before bonding. For optimal adhesion, we recommend using Surface Activator.
- Application on Various Substrates:
- Soudaseal High Tack is versatile and can be applied on a wide range of substrates. However, specific substrates, such as plastics like polycarbonate, may vary among manufacturers. It’s advisable to conduct a preliminary compatibility test.
- Restrictions on Usage:
- Soudaseal High Tack is not suitable for use as a glazing sealant and should not be used to bond aquariums.
- Special Considerations:
- Exercise caution during application to prevent spillage on material surfaces. Taping the area around the joint can help in avoiding this.
- Effect of UV Exposure:
- Prolonged exposure to UV radiation may cause a change in the sealant’s color. However, this does not impact its technical properties.
- Application with Other Sealants:
- If using different reactive joint sealants, ensure the first joint sealant is fully cured before applying the next one.
- Discoloration Caution:
- Discoloration may occur due to chemicals, high temperatures, or UV radiation. Any color change does not affect the technical properties of the product.
