Contact Adhesive is a solvent-based neoprene adhesive offers high initial grab and a long open time, allowing for repositioning. It is suitable for bonding lightweight materials to vertical surfaces and ceilings, primarily for interior use, though it can be used externally if protected from direct sunlight and water. The toluene-free formulation ensures safer application and compatibility with various materials, including cork, leather, rubber, metals, wood, chipboard, hardboard, laminated plastics, dense textiles, plaster, stone, concrete, and smoothing compounds. While it bonds rigid PVC and PVCu sheets, a suitability check is recommended due to potential plasticiser migration. However, it is not suitable for polystyrene, polythene, polypropylene, silicone rubbers, bitumen, PTFE, or certain painted/lacquered surfaces due to solvent sensitivity.
Key Points:
- High initial grab, excellent final bond strength, and good heat resistance.
- Suitable for vertical and suspended surfaces, for both interior and protected exterior use.
- Bonds a wide range of materials but requires a suitability check for PVC and PVCu.
- Toluene-free formulation for safer application.
Shelf Life & Storage Conditions: This product has a minimum shelf life of 18 months from the date of manufacture when stored in its original, unopened container. To maintain quality, keep containers sealed and stored in a covered area, away from heat sources and ignition. Avoid direct sunlight and ensure storage temperatures remain between +5°C and +25°C. Protect from frost.

Contact Adhesive is suitable for bonding a wide range of materials, including cork, leather, rubber, metals, wood, chipboard, hardboard, laminated plastics (e.g., Formica), dense textiles, plaster, stone, concrete, cementitious screeds, and smoothing compounds. It can also bond rigid PVC and uPVC sheets, though a suitability check is recommended due to the potential risk of solvent attack. Additionally, it is ideal for securing lightweight materials to vertical surfaces and ceilings. While primarily designed for interior use, it can be used externally if protected from direct sunlight and water.
Application Instructions
Before use, stir the adhesive thoroughly until a uniform consistency is achieved. Apply a thin, even layer to both surfaces using a scraper, brush, or notched trowel (1x4mm). In cool, damp conditions, ensure no condensation forms on the glue lines, as this will weaken the bond. If condensation appears as a grey “bloom,” delay bonding until the glue is moisture-free. If the open time is exceeded, reapply adhesive to both surfaces. Allow the adhesive to become touch-dry (approximately 5–30 minutes, depending on drying conditions). Carefully align the pieces to be bonded, working from the center outward to prevent air entrapment. Press the surfaces together firmly using a hand rubber roller, block and mallet, or mechanical press. Handling and trimming can be done immediately after bonding. As surfaces vary, it is recommended to test the product on a small area before full application. The user is responsible for determining suitability.
Drying Time
The initial set takes up to 60 minutes, with bond strength continuing to develop for up to 48 hours. Avoid using infrared heaters or mechanical blowers, as the adhesive contains solvents and is highly flammable. Drying time varies based on ambient temperature and adhesive thickness. For optimal heat resistance, allow the bond to cure at room temperature for seven days before exposure to service temperatures of up to +80°C.
Cleaning of Tools
Remove excess adhesive using Bond It WHITE SPIRIT, acetone, or nail polish remover. Take care to protect surrounding surfaces during cleaning.
Limitations
- Not suitable for polystyrene, polythene, polypropylene, silicone rubbers, bitumen, or PTFE.
- Unsuitable for use with polyolefins, acetate fabrics, or soft (plasticised) PVC.
- Avoid application on cellulose-painted or lacquered surfaces and bitumen.
- Not recommended for bonding items that will hold hot liquids.
- Should not be used in areas exposed to continuous water immersion.
- Do not apply at temperatures below +5°C.
