PVA Bond Adhesive & Sealer is suitable for use with plaster, cement, timber, gypsum wallboards, and paper. It offers fast drying properties as an adhesive and can be diluted for priming or added to cement and plaster to enhance adhesion and curing. It is commonly used as a plaster primer, porous surface primer and sealer, rendering key coat, admixture, dust sealer, and general-purpose adhesive for bonding construction materials where one surface is porous.
Preparation:
Ensure all surfaces are clean, dry, and free from dust, grease, or contaminants that may affect adhesion. Remove any loose material, and ensure the underlying structure is strong enough to support the weight or load to be applied. If necessary, apply a sealing or priming coat and allow it to dry thoroughly before applying the adhesive/sealer.
Application:
As a Primer:
PVA Bond is suitable as a primer for sand/cement screeds, renderings, bonding new plaster to old plaster, porous brick, stone, floor tiles, and new plasterboard. Dilute 1 part PVA with 4 parts water, mix well, and apply with a brush, ensuring the material works well into crevices and gaps. Allow the coat to dry before proceeding.
For Cement:
Dilute 1 part PVA to 1 part gauging water.
For Plaster:
Dilute 1 part PVA to 5 parts gauging water.
For Dustproofing:
Use the same dilution as for priming.
Key Coat & Bonding Aid:
For use as a key coat for new plaster, concrete repairs, cement screeds, and renders, apply a coat of undiluted PVA Bond to primed absorbent surfaces. While the coat is still tacky, apply the topping. For ceramic tiles (not suitable for bathrooms) and painted surfaces, ensure the surface can withstand the load, then apply undiluted PVA Bond and trowel on plaster while still tacky. For lightweight plasters over ceramic tiles and heavy-duty cement rendering (over 9mm), mix 1 part PVA with 1 part water, create a slurry with 1 part Portland cement and 2 parts clean sharp sand, and apply with a notched trowel. Allow the mix to dry for 24 hours before applying a top coat of plaster or cement.
Key Coat for Porous and Rough Surfaces, Bonding Paving, Terrazzo, Quarry, Slate, and Floor Tiles:
Prime both the floor and the backs of the tiles using a 3:1 mix of PVA and water. Apply the slurry to the floor while the primer is still tacky, and bed the tiles into the sand and cement mix with a minimum bedding thickness of 3mm.
As an Adhesive:
Apply PVA Bond to one surface, and bring the two sides together within 3-5 minutes. Apply moderate, constant pressure using clamps or weights.
